How much for a new front door?

We want to replace the storm door and the front door. With installation and hoping it's not a custom order (i can hope)..how much did you all pay?

Is $2500 about right?

Isn't that insane?

Granted, it would have to be re-framed.

What type of front door? That seems pretty high. Although I had a handyman do the job for me and not Lowes (which is where I got the front door) so maybe that's why it wasn't so high?

This sounds a bit high. You are really getting killed on the installation fees. DH and I priced them at Lowes and Home Depot. With DH installing it was going to run under $1,000.

ok, I will keep looking. That was with a window/door company. I do have a friend who could do the job so I will ask him if he wants to pick up the work.

ours was a little more than that, and included the screen. its a heavy door and feels good and solid

We paid $299 for our steel front door

$175 for our storm door

$500 for install

Is it custom ? I think it sounds about right for a 'fancier' door if it's NOT custom -

Our front door is arched and the prices I'm getting for JUST the glass door are between $1200 and $2500 ........ - I don't even want to think about what the storm door is going to cost .....

Those prices are about right for a custom door made of steel or fiberglass, with glass inserts, installed by a door or window company.

that sounds a bit high. we are having our new door installed on monday from a door/window place. it's a front door and glass storm door, new wood framing all around, new saddle and wood on the bottom floor area, locks, and one sidelight. we are paying just under 3k. but without the sidelight it was about 2100.

well, if you add it up....

a new front door should roughly cost $700 +/- and then the storm door (I'm presuming you want the full glass, not the 1/2 glass, which is cheaper) is another $400 or so.... then you need the door handles / locks.. another $150 or $200, and you're already up to about $1300... and it's not installed yet.

there's obviously a ton of play in those #'s. Get a really nice / high end door, and it could cost 2k alone.... or conversely, get an in-stock door from home depot, you could spend as little as about $300....

It also depends if your opening is a common size, or if it has unusual dimensions...

For a non-double door entrance, $2500 sounds a little high, but if the door you're interested in is premium quality, it's a fair price....

We paid $1800 for the front door alone. We got a fiberglass door and sidelight. It was a custom order because we didn't have a standard size door. I would recommend going with fiberglass because there is less maintenance. No need to paint them and they don't dent like steel doors too. IMO it is worth the extra $$ for the fiberglass door.
