How much food..updated

Dds first bday is coming up, and we're having it at our house.

It seems as if we'll have about 20 kids (between 1-13), and 40 adults.

would this be better?

1 six foot hero
1 tray penne vodka
1 tray lasagna
1 tray green salad
1 tray roasted veggies
1 tray sausage and peppers
1 tray chicken fingers
1/2 tray fries

I plan on making everything except the hero/sausage peppers, and I'm picking the chicken and fries up from Costco..

So it would be 6 1/2 trays and a 6 foot hero. There will also be desserts..

ETA:

Just wanted to give a post-party update. We ended up with 42 adults and 22 kids.

I got:

2 five foot heroes (10 feet total)
1 tray salad
1 tray roasted veggies
1.5 trays lasagna
1 tray penne vodka
1 tray mac and cheese
1 tray sausage peppers
1 tray chicken fingers

way way way too much food lol

This is what people ate:

3/4 of one hero (so maybe 4 feet?)
1/2 tray salad
1/2 tray lasagna
1/2 tray penne
3/4 tray veggies
1 tray chicken fingers
3/4 tray sausage peppers

Re: How much food?

I would probably do some burgers and hot dogs too. I know it's a pain to grill but maybe do it when you put all the food out...they can also be thrown in foil pans to be kept warm and guests can assemble their own.

For big parties, we get a keg and I get those old school boxes of wine.

I also fill up a large cooler with soda, juice bags and water.

Lots of guests will probably bring beer and wine too you can throw in the cooler.

I agree you need some meat. If you don't want have to grill maybe a tray of some kind of chicken dish? I like to get a tray of fried chicken for parties. It's a huge hit.

I agree with adding in some meat.

We have barbecues with around 20-30 people in the summer, and we generally get around 120 beers, 8 bottles of soda, and four bottles of wine. We would definitely buy more wine, but most of our guests bring wine. We used to purchase more, and people just wouldn't drink it. We usually have two bottles of tequila and two bottles of vodka too, but I don't know if that is necessary for a first birthday party!

How much food?

I agree with adding some meat and I would make the 1/2 trays into fulls people have a tendency to pick even after they eat. When we had our engagement party we had a backyard bbq- the night before we did the burgers and hot dogs on the bbq then the next day tossed them on for a few minutes so little cooking :)

Thanks everyone. Maybe sausage and peppers? I guess I kind of considered the hero to be the "meat". Idk if hot dogs and hamburgers really go with penne and lasagna?

How much food?

I'd probably do meatballs and maybe a chicken dish instead of the chicken nuggets and fries. But I never cater a specific kids meal for the kids..they can eat pasta and meatballs.

I also find that most people don't drink soda nowadays. I usually do lemonade, iced tea, seltzer/water and then beer and wine. Are used to end up with a ton of leftover soda and don't drink it.

You need a Protein to go with the veggies. I also agree about the full trays.

Sausage and peppers would be good if you don't want to do burgers and dogs.

Maybe instead of nuggets do a full tray of chicken fingers or plain chicken cutlets.

Some adults actually will pick at this too.

I agree, chciken fingers always is a good option because adults usually pick at them too

How much food?

I would only do one pasta not two and a full tray if not two full trays. I would also add in a sausage and peppers. Change the nuggets to chicken fingers as the adults will eat that too.

As far as beer/wine/soda it really depends on your guests. We get a ton of waters and very few sodas because we just don't drink that. We buy juice boxes for the kids. We also only get about a case of beer because everyone is wine drinkers. We get a ton of wine.

Re: How much food?

I'd skip one of the heros and get a full tray chicken dish instead like Francese- that always seems to be a hit. We had a 6 foot hero in addition to hot food for DD's 1st bday last year and barely anyone touched it.

Re: How much food..updated

Since you're doing two pastas, I would do one with a red sauce (either lasagna or penne vodka) and then do either a pesto or garlic and oil with veggies just so that there's more variety. And enough chicken fingers or nuggets for a full tray, same with the fries.

I agree. I'd do a penne vodka & maybe a pasta with broccoli/garlic/oil. I'd def do a full tray each of the chicken fingers and fries. Or instead, just order a few pizza pies. Nice and easy and both kids and parents would eat. I'd probably do a tray of meatballs as well. I tend to always overdo though lol.

Re: How much food..updated

I would also get 2 hero sandwiches. There should be enough for each adult and a few extra for kids who may want one. I always feel it's better to have extra.

I'd do a full tray of chicken fingers. The adults usually eat them too so you might not have enough with a 1/2 tray.

*ducks for cover*

Sorry but I have to agree.

I had about 25 adults and10 kids for a party recently and almost all the sandwiches went (I did chicken cutlet and italian) and we had to fire up the grill several times with burgers and dogs to make sure people were fed.

It's better to overmake and have leftovers, or send home with guests then have people show up and find just salad or a scoop of macaroni left. Chat Icon

Re: How much food..updated

I agree that it's not enough food.

When we do DS's birthday we have 3 trays of food plus salad and bread for 30 people and we do have plenty of leftovers - probably too many - but I am afraid to go less because I want variety and I want to make sure we never run out of anything.

Quantity wise I think you need one full extra tray.

How much food..updated

I do not think that it is enough food for that many people. I had a party for about 20-25 people and I think that was about the amount of food we got. We did have left over but not enough for everyone to eat again. I would add another 6 foot hero (each 6 foot hero will feed about 20-25 people). I would also probably do a full tray of fries since the only food most of the kids will probably eat is the chicken fingers and fries.

I would do a full tray of french fries and add a tray of another chicken dish. No chicken parm because you already have enough stuff with red sauce (the lasagna and the penne vodka). Either chicken marsala, or chicken francaise?
