How much does an accountant charge to file a tax return?
DH and I used the same accountant for 9 years. The accountant passed away suddenly last spring. We paid $120ish for our return to be filed. FIL told DH yesterday that for most people, it's $500+?!? That sounds a little ridiculous to me... but is FIL right?

How much does an accountant charge to file a tax return?
I think it depends on the firm and how difficult your return is to file. My guy charged me $250.

Thats pretty high for personal. Maybe for a business; it would be $500+.
Personal should run anywhere around $200 or so. Some are cheaper.

I need a new accountant. Mine charged $320 last year for a general return, nothing crazy. Also they don't even have time to meet with us, we have drop our paperwork off.

$500 is a lot for a regular personal return.
For a simple no frills return - I charge around $85-100 (depending on schedules)
For itemized deductions - maybe $130-$200
If there is a Schedule C that requires financials and what not - then we might get into the $350-$500 range.

Ours charged us almost $300 in the past, and ours is really basic. So, this year we did Turbo Tax and paid $100.

That's insane! I pay $150 for personal & $250 for my business. I do most of the work for my business as far as itemizing all my deductions...if I didn't do that it would be $350.
