This will be our first year to claim taxes on a home:) what exactly am I claiming? I've heard .......interest, oil bill?????????car note?

if you itemize your deductions, you can write off the interest you have paid.
and your property taxes.
If you work from home, you usually can write off elec, heat, etc.
Also, if you have done certain home improvements you can write off (I believe if you got new windows that are a certain efficiency you can write off some of the cost, but I have to double check with my acct)
