I actually have no idea Chat Icon All I know is that our bills are paid and we still save each month. I spend more than DH spends as I go out w/ my friends often, beauty treatments (waxing, mani/pedis, hair), occasional Starbucks, shopping, Pilates membership, etc.

eta: I should probably figure it out one day Chat Icon

It is eye opening to figure it out even if you do have money left over. About 2-3 years ago DH and I realized that our one day a week trip to Dunkin Donuts was adding up to a lot of money that was spent a.) on unhealthy food and b.) we could have either saved more or spent elsewhere. And I started to pay more attention to salon prices. I still go to the person I love for hair but now I pay attention to prices for other services. Some places have better prices for services that are just as good as another's. I've noticed that the people I know who are the most comfortable financially do pay attention to these small costs that add up. I never used to pay attention to prices from one gas station to another but that was silly of me.

How much do you spend per- week?

Anywhere from $80-$175 on groceries per week. $20 gas for my car, $60 in Dhs truck, sometimes twice a week. Then extras. God only knows.

Yeah this is true. We love sushi but a dinner is $60 and we were there weekly so that's $240 a month?! No way, we had to cut that down. Plus we did some local place once a week too for dinner and at least one lunch so it averaged to $300 or more a week. Screw that .. I pulled the plug. Unfortunately, fate took over and all that 'excess' went to unexpected bills.

I swear my bank acct is cursed. Anything over $1k in the bank and SOMETHING happens to drain it Chat Icon

But knowing HOW you are spending and where is a serious eye opening experience. Especially when you factor it out to a month then a year and think what could i do with that money?!

Omg

I was going to say 100 for food and 50 for gas total of 150. Plus extra 30 bucks for spending.

I just checked my cc statement for last week, we spent 395Chat Icon I think I need to look at our spending more closely. We picked up food at several points this week, I am shocked how many times we ate out Chat Icon

Surprisingly very little. The biggest chunk is gas, I fill up once a week and it's over $80 for my 20-gallon tank.

I am home with the baby for now, so I don't have much on my agenda. I meet friends for lunch here and there and stop in DD now and then for a tea and bagel or muffin.

I don't get nails done weekly (pedis in summer and when needed the rest) and I get my hair cut every 3-4 months. I color at home every other month.

I voted about $200 for an average. Of course, that's what I spend on me. It doesn't add into the fact the bills to be paid for the whole household, like food (average $600/month), gas, electric, mortgage, etc.

I don't think it matters how much you spend. As long as you ate spending within your means who cares if it is $5 or $500.

Yep, ITA with the saving. It is like getting extra money from OT or something else. There always seems to be something that is needed and is exactly that amount.
Unless you make a ton of money, do not do anything in life or have no kids, I think most people have a hard time saving.

At least 200 on groceries. About 75 for gas. Then nails, we go out for date night to a nice place once a week, out to eat with the kids once a week, some sort of activity on the weekends, babysitter for date night,Starbucks, not to mention useless stuff from Target, etc.

I guess I just figured out where all our money goes...Chat Icon Chat Icon

I totally get what you're saying and you're right...these things all add up. I do compare prices between items (like gas, groceries, etc.) and we do not just spend money recklessly. If we can't afford it, we don't buy it (no CC debt or anything). We know there are places we could cut back and save even more; however, we don't have kids yet and have a pretty substantial savings acct that we only add to each month so we're enjoying the splurges and luxuries because we can at this point. If we were struggling and not putting a good amount of money away each month then things would be different and we wouldn't spend money on all the "extras." We're also planning on TTC within the next year so we will be cutting back on luxury spending (vacations, eating out often, etc.) when the time comes.

To much.

I've started to write down what I spend,,so I can see where it goes. It's a little ridiculous what I spend on one day.

Re: How much do you spend per- week?

I spend about $250 a month on groceries and I put $100 from each paycheck in my pocket for lunches out, magazines, all the little non-sense comfort things. I spend about $200 a month on gas...so about $140 a week on groceries, eating out and gas.

I have no idea at all. I spend about $200 a week on Pea Pod. Eat out at least 1x a week and bring food in at least twice.

I don't even want to think about it.

Around 200 a week, this includes groceries, gas and eating lunches out or whatever. I really don't splurge on hair and nails too often...

Re: How much do you spend per- week?

About $150 per week (sometime more or less depending on what we need) for food.

Gas is approx $38 per week (thank God for my elantra, 40 mpg baby!)

Eating out depends on the week. We TRY not to do it because it's such a waste of money, but heck we both work and sometimes we just dont want to cook. So, I will say approx $50 per week.

Nail done...lol, no. That's a luxery. During the summer I would get a pedicure when needed, but otherwise $0.

Re: How much do you spend per- week?

I pay for gas with my business Amex and even so it's rarely more than $38 which is a full tank. I drive a Prius and I drive for business a lot!
DHs car is around $70 to fill, I can't take it. He doesn't drive it everyday though because he as a work vehicle.
I usually spend about $150 at the grocery store, farm stand and butcher per week. If I shop at citarella's it's more but it's worth it.
I usually get a mani/pedi/waxing 2x a month.
We have take out once a week and eat out once a week typically.
DH has gotten into the bad habit of eating lunch out, I rarely buy lunch out. We both bring coffee and breakfast from home.
It is very unusual for me to shop during the week with the exception of pet supplies. I spend about $250 per month but we have a lot of pets.
I spend about $20 p/week on dry cleaning.

I said $400 but we also commute to NJ every day for work so I factored in that gas.

Re: How much do you spend per- week?

For me personally?

If it doesn't include clothes shopping or random trips to Target or CVS, or necessities like diapers and wipes for my son:

About $100 a week:
-$60 a week for gas
-$15 max for lunch (I usually bring lunch to work)
-$25 for pizza on Fridays or some other takeout for dinner

My DH also covers some weekly expenses, like take out for dinner, and he plays Lotto all the time, and other random shit that I have no clue about. His weekly spend is much higher than mine.

ETA: Was I supposed to include groceries in this amount? That comes from a separate household budget, but that's at least $150 a week, more if we hit up BJ's also.

Re: How much do you spend per- week?

I answered $200 but it's more like $250 depending on the week.

DH and I spend about $50 on gas each p/week, we go shopping 1x every other week and spend about $200 then and that's about it. I only get my nails done about 6 times a year and we eat out maybe... twice a month or so. I bring my lunch 4/5 days a week, don't drink coffee so I skip the typical DD/Starbucks expense and... yeah.

I have about $100, DH has about $200 (because of gas) . This is outside of all bills & food store hits.

we spend it as we need...

lunch
occasional coffee.
gas
nails
night out with the girls/boys.
pizza fridays
weekend eating out

I pay 2 in daycare, I'm budgeted down to the penny.

Re: How much do you spend per- week?

on gas, food, living, eating out, nails etc

gas: i fill up every other week, so each time i pump from empty it is about $50 -- so that averages to around $25

food: i food shop for DH and I every other week and I spend about 70-80 dollars refilling what we typically eat. then, costco once every few months for anything that doesn't expire (paper plates, cups) -- so, weekly, say $50 total

living/eating out: maybe we'll grab the greeks or pizza and order in once in a while but we don't go out that much - we much prefer home with the dogs in front of the fireplace with wine - so, I would say, including the wine 20 bucks the MOST and that's not usually every week but I'll throw it in for good measure.

Nails: almost nothing - I put a clear coat on my fingers and keep them nice and short/clean myself - I'll go once every other month for a clear coat manicure with a regular pedicure - so, that probably breaks down to like 3 dollars a week haha! So, I won't count that

Around $100 total

ETA: I indulge, and this is my heaven, in a venti black iced-tea/lemonade mix from Starbucks about once a week - verrrry lightly sweetened!! So, throw that in - ok, like $103.87
