Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
I spent between $100-$200. I got a bunch of small stuff at the target sale over the summer..otherwise it would have been more. Last year (her first christmas) I probably spent about $250-$300. She gets so spoiled by my huge family & all of our friends (we're the only one with a child)..so I decided not to go overboard this year...money is tight, we're planning our OOS move, and she's only 20 months, so I know she'll be happy with a new babydoll -which she'll get like 5 of! I know it will get more expensive as she gets older...and I'm okay with that.

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
I feel like a Scrooge reading these posts... We do three gifts (no more than $100 total). Baby Jesus got three gifts, you get three gifts... and we have ONE child.
We let the grandparents do what they want ... I won't take that away from them.
But I won't allow my kid to become focused on "what they're getting", but rather appreciate what they get, no matter what it may be.

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
I spent a total of $125 for DS. It's more than I was planning on spending. However, I changed my mind and decided to buy the PB anywhere chair for him. Otherwise, I would have spent less than $100.
I didn't get an extraoridnary amount of gifts for Christmas growing up. We would get 1-3 gifts each and one joint.
I plan on doing the same for DS. I feel like the meaning of Christmas is lost in the race to get the hottest toy/item or to out gift "The Jones" and "The Smiths".
I see it amongst my own group of friends and their children. It looks like Toys R Us exploded in their houses. They don't play with anything because they have too much and get bored with all of it so quickly. Then their parents run out and get more

Same thing except we don't do the three gifts (although that is a good idea). We don't focus on presents, but rather than the magic and spirit of the holiday itself and to appreciate what we get.
I think I spent $65 so far and that's enough for me. I bought a used play kitchen from someone for $25 (practically new) and $39 worth of play food at Michaels on black friday. That's all she's getting from us. My family will do as they want as well.

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
My parents were always extremely generous on Christmas. I plan to do the same for DD. She is a good girl and I have no qualms about spoiling her a little for the holidays.
I am also starting alot of traditions for our family this year that I think she will be excited for every year.

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
We do like $500 per kid. My DH is freaking out though b/c we got SD a lap top so that really hinders the amount of gifts she will have (HE feels she needs to have a lot of presents...she would be fine with the one thing ) so we will probably be closer to $600 for her.

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
I don't keep track but make sure to shop smart and not go crazy. My family buys him so much and I end up buying stuff for them and collecting money. If I had to guess I would say that I personally spend around 150 (maybe even less)
So far I bought him:
M&D Blocks-15 tjmax Little People Set-Around 30 Musical Sock Monkey-10 Moon and Thomas Floor puzzle-20 Two thomas wood trains-around 25 tjmax Toy Story Shirt -Under 5 clearance target
I bought him other things but between my mom and my grandmother they paid for them. I am very fortunate

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
WOW! I can't imagine spending $400 on our kid.
We will get him one "big" present: a tricycle (for use later on in the year).
TOTAL for Xmas (one present per CLOSE family at about $30 each gift... ie my sister & BIL, my ILs, my parents, etc.) he will get (as per my requests):
A ride-on ship toy ($30) Books ($30) Train track starter set ($30) Megabloks ($20)
That's it. TOTAL presents about $200.

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
Normally up to $100 (he gets so many gifts from family so that's all we spend) but this year one of gifts alone was over $100. We definitely went overboard but he's so active we wanted to get him stuff to keep him interested! For my twin nephews who are 2.5 we spend $100 on both (total - usually get a ride on toy or something big like that).

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
We don't really set a "dollar amount" budget, but we do kind of set a "quantity" budget. Meaning, we like to try to cap it at maybe 5 or 6 gifts per child. I totally get the urge to lavish your kids with everything that looks cute and every great deal you see, but DH and I can't possibly see how the kids could really appreciate such a huge sprawl of toys that all arrived at one. Seems kind of overwhelming, and some otherwise nice presents might get lost in the shuffle.

Your child is young, wait until they get older and you will see how easy it is to spend. Especially when one item like a bike or something costs $100.

Please..........my DD is 3 and I have NO problem spending that much!! You know what happens with me??................I start shopping early and end up getting things here and there for such a great deal that by the time I sit down to take stock of what I bought her, I have a TON of stuff and spent a small fortune. She's my only one right now though and except for her bday and Xmas we don't really buy her toys and things so I figure, one day a year it's okay (and a stupid amount of fun) to spoil her rotten.

We have been buying a 500 dollar bond for Christmas and a few toys that we collect over the course of a year. She gets super spoiled by everyone. I'm saving for her big gift one day.......her down payment for a house. It's my dream.
great idea!!! i want to do this too!

So true... I'm sure it will get more $$ with age. DS is not yet 2. His first Christmas, he got maybe $20 worth of toys & a lot of spring cloths (all from family: no gifts from us... except an ornament).
The way I see it, we will get him one "big" gift that I anticipate him playing with during the year (our overly fancy trike was, just as you said, $90 with tax & all). The rest come from the family & are small ones.
I am minimalistic & super cheap though Probably because all my childhood gifts were "recycled" from my cousins. Drives my hubby crazy (he tries to compensate for not getting gifts/designer stuff as a kid).

Re: How much do you budget per kid for Christmas?
We only have one child right now and I set a budget for all the other gifts we buy, but not for him.
I buy everything on sale or with coupons. His "big" gift is a table and chairs set that I got for $25 on Black Friday. Then a bunch of other small stuff that I think he'll enjoy and that he can use with the table (play doh, table top paper roll holder for arts and crafts, little cars, a ss play pots set, etc). I actually forgot everything we got for him and haven't added it all up, but it's a lot of small stuff.
We're having another baby in a few months and don't have room for a lot of stuff. My mom bought him 3 toys that we think he'll enjoy and we asked for no more toys from anyone else. His wish list is mostly books, puzzles, sleep sacks for toddler, stuff like that.
