i think they're fairly common with most cable companies now, particularly if you have the Io or other digital cable, i think it's standard/

It's a necessity in this household, ESP. with kids. My kids cannot understand why their certain show isn't on at a certain time! But Mommy the Magician (aka DVR) makes it happen!

Nope. I still work in the taping on a VCR tape mode 
We're not big TV watchers at all, so we don't know what we're missing yet.
