How many kids?

My girlfriends and I were chatting recently about the number of children we always assumed we wanted vs. the number we plan on now that we're moms or pregnant. All of us (6 of us) want fewer that we originally envisioned. I and 2 others think we're one and done and the others said they have a hard limit of 2. We're all in our early 30's and work full time (with no intention of stopping). I guess once reality set in we realized how tough pregnancy and babies actually are!

Just curious how common this is- has anyone stuck to the number you always wanted? If not, do you have more or less than you planned?

I've always wanted 2. DD is only about 4 months old, but I'm already thinking of the timing of a second. 2 and DONE though. DH would have a brood if he could, but these things ain't cheap! I don't think I could work full time with more than 2 kids at home- it wouldn't make financial sense and that would be a huge loss for us right now with my benefits.

Before I met dh I always wanted 2. I met him and realized I wanted more- either 3 or 4

I'm due in October with our second. We plan on trying for the third at the end of next year. We decided to make the decision on the 4th after we have our 3rd.

Then again, I was about 15 weeks preggo this time and told dh I could go for 5 or 6 lol

Eta: I work now, and plan to continue no matter how many kids we have. I may take longer maternity leaves with 3 and 4, but I will continue to work

I would have been fine with none. I was fine either way- whatever was in the cards

I can't imagine having more than one.

I always thought I wanted 2. DH wanted to see how it goes after 1. Now we're most likely one and done and I'm ok with that

Have a 3 year old DS and expecting #2 in the spring. I think 2 is the most we want/can handle/can afford without having to make major adjustments to our jobs and home life. My parents help us with daycare so that is a factor as well. I always expected 2 at minimum.

I never had a set number. I thought maybe 2-3. We have fertility issues so at this point I'm happy with the one we have. We may try for a second, but it's a big emotional/financial undertaking.

DH and I talked about having 2-3 kids, and I always assumed I would work after kids as well.

Had our first and took a 6 week maternity leave, ended up going back for 6 weeks and then quitting for good (been 7 years now). We now have 4 kids, 2 boys, 2 girls and we are done, only because pregnancy is very hard on me. My DH still talks about having more, but I couldn't handle it.

We always said 3. After we had our second and went through unexpected complications we both went back and forth in whether we still wanted a third. I didn't at first, then I did and he didn't, then we both decided against it. I even got rid of most of our bigger baby items. Over 1.5 years later and I'm starting to waver on our decision and I know dh does at times too.

I had DS with my Ex. When I got remarried, DH and I talked about having 2 together. I'm pregnant with our first (my 2nd) and I'm pretty positive that I'm done...and thankfully, he agrees. I have rough pregnancies, my DS is ADHD, we both work full time, and kids are expensive. I think both for our sanity and in order to be able to provide them with the type of life we want to (financially) we need to stop here.

i always wanted 4. We have 3 closer in age than we had planned and we are done. I still want another at times but I know my hands are more than full with 3!

I wanted 3, but between our jobs, marriage, house...I feel like I don't get enough QT with my current 2.

I never had a set number. After DD was born I was good with one, but here I am pregnant with #2 and that will definitely be it for us.

I always wanted 2 kids. Well it took a couple of years and many medical interventions to get pregnant with my child. I would love to have a second but I'm not sure if it can happen. I work full time.

I always wanted 2. So did dh... But then our 1 came and I cannot imagine having another. We think we were meant to spoil the crap out of one

always wanted at least 2, maybe 3. we struggled getting PG for a few years. we have 2 boys now. DH would like another, but i am set with 2. i am too old and tired for another!

I was ok with none or 1. I have 2 and am DONE.
DH wanted 3 or 4. He changed his mind real quick after our first came along and realized how hard it is.

I always wanted 3 and just found out yesterday I'm pregnant with my third!!

I've gone between 2 and 4 at various times. I will definitely be done after 3. I think 3 is definitely going to be chaotic and I'm starting to realize the next few years with such small children will be rough but we'll get through them and they will go by fast.

The only way this is possible for me is that we live 3 blocks from my parents, who help us with everything. I'd be lost without them. I work FT and also have a very flexible schedule and work from home quite a bit.

I always said I wanted one- I have one and I am really happy with an only child.
