How many hours a day should I a 1 month old be sleeping?

DS' nighttime schedule has been very consistent pretty much since he was 2.5 weeks old. He would sleep 10:30PM-4:30AM, wake up to eat and back to bed until 7:30-8ish.

His daytime sleeping habits are all over the place. For example, on Thursday he was awake from 11AM-8PM (with a couple of cat naps in between). Yesterday was the complete opposite- sleeping from 11AM-8PM (with a couple of times waking up in between to eat, get changed, etc).

I'm not complaining at all. He's a great baby and doesn't fuss when he's awake. he sleeps through the night. I'm just trying to figure out his sleeping habits! What are normal sleeping habits for a one month old (Is there such thing as normal?)

At that age DS was all over too. Some days he would barely sleep. I would just go with it and don't force naps. They put themselves on a schedule.

I agree with PP, at a month old, babies are still all over the place. At least he's going for a long stretch at night. At a month old my DS was getting up every 2-3 hours. It was brutal!

Totally normal to be all over the place at that age. Eventually, you'll see patterns and routine form.

Take a look at healthy sleephabits... it has really helped me to understand sleep needs/routines for babies. Everything has been 100% on point for my girls.
Nap patterns don't usually emerge until 9 + weeks. I also need/love structure and babies really need that as well!
