How many days bereavement do you get at work?

Not sure where to post this, but I thought I'd start here.

My company only gives 1 days for anyone that isn't immediate family. Other than that, you get 2. I swear this company is so ff'd up when it comes to taking care of their employee.

My grandmother just passed away (we'd been waiting for it) and I only get 1 day. How am I supposed to be a 2 viewings and the funeral!? I would have to take a VACATION/PERSONAL day. How does that make ANY sense?!?!?!?

I work for a small family owned business so we are very flexable with time off for
bereavement etc. That totally sucks that they can't work with you on this.

wow that's terrible. we get 5 days if it is immediate family and 3 days if it is aunt/uncle/cousin, etc.

I believe we get 3 for spouses, parents, child or siblings. I don't even get days for grandparents, aunts, uncles or cousins.

How sad is that?

I get a big fat 0

thankfully I have only had to deal with it once and my boss did pay me for the days, but according to my hire terms, we don't get any.

i am pretty sure we get one day for immediate family, none for anyone else.

but we can take vacation or sick time, and as much unpaid time as we need.

we only get for immediate family as well- but when my grandfather died, I took three days and they didnt charge me vacation days for them- its up to the supervisor at our office really

In my old job, we got 3 days for immediate family (which included grandparents). Not sure about my new job's policy yet and hope I don't have occasion to use it.

3 days for parent, child, spouse, sibling, grandparent or grandchild.

I'm sure that if I needed more time, my boss would work it out with me.

For immediate family we get 5 paid days. That includes parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. For any other relative, we have to use our personal days.

We have to use sick leave, and they mark it as "family friendly" so we don't need a doctors note if it is 3+ days. We get A LOT of sick leave though and don't lose it every year.

It doesn't make any sense. I'd get 0 days for a grandparent death. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother

Parents/siblings/spouse we get 5 days.

Grandparents/aunts/uncles I believe is 3 days

I get none - I have to use sick time and mark it out as family death.

when I worked in corporate America - we were given 5 days.

I had only been with the company one month when my dad passed and they gave me the five days. They were awesome.

We get 3 days for immediate family (spouse, child, parent, or sibling) and 1 day for non-immediate family. However, when my grandfather passed away my boss agreed to give me 3 days. I still took 2 personal days for the rest of the week.

we get 5 days for immediate family only

Immediate Family defined as: Spouse, mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister, brother, daughter, son or any individual who is a member of your household.

I get 3 days, but they'd give me as many as I needed honestly.

We get 3 for immediate family which is defined as spouse, children, parents/legal guardians, siblings, grandparents, in laws(mother, father sibling) or "special situations."

It is pretty generous, except that it should include aunts/uncles & aunt/uncle and grandparent in-laws.

DH & I took vacation for each other grandparents, but we have a lot. I think my supervisor would consider it a "special situation" & let me take it as a bereavement day if I asked.

i'm so sorry for your loss my grandmother passed away last year and i know how hard it is!

at my old job ( a school) we got up to 5 days for immediate family (parent, spouse, child and grandparent). for all other relatives or friends we would get just 1 day. It was very generous and i was really greatful to be able to take 3 days off when my grandmom passed away. i was VERY close to her and needed a day after the funeral to just recover.
i'm a new school this year, and i can't remember what their bereavement policy is...

Up to three additional personal days to include parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, spouse, aunts, uncles, and cousins
