How many consultations did...

How many consultations did you have before you choose your doctor? I have a consultation with Dr. Braverman and Dr. K at long Island IVF. Should I schedule more? Also, how did you find your doctor (friend, internet, etc.)? Thanks ladies!

My consultations are this week and I am looking forward to getting some answers about my losses. Chat Icon

Re: How many consultations did...

i am no big help, as i did tons of research beforehand and just went with the first RE i picked. I did end up switching though. I am not familiar with dr K, but dr B is a pro with recurrent losses. I just love him. Good luck!

Re: How many consultations did...

I went with the first doc I had a consult with. He came recommended by my OBGYN and both of my coworkers daughters went with him and had success.

Re: How many consultations did...

I found out about Dr. B from the ladies on this board and also from another friend IRL. We were open to meeting other doctors, but after our 1st consult we just felt like we "clicked" with Dr. B and didn't feel the need to meet any others.

If we have to use an RE again, I'm not sure what we'll do b/c Dr. B doesn't take our insurance anymore Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How many consultations did...

I went to Dr.B and found out about him from the boards. Immediately when we met him I had a feeling I was in great hands. I never went for a consult anywhere else not have I ever gotten a second opinion. I have a lot of confidence in him.

i went to 2 different RE's and decided to stay with the 2nd one because of his reputation. i hate to say he doesnt seem to be living up to the bedside manner portion of his rep. but im sticking it out because my protocol seems pretty straightforward.

Re: How many consultations did...

Because of our insurance, we really only had 1 option for where to go.

There are a few doctors at that practice, we picked one and felt very comfortable with him so we didn't look any further ... especially since at NSUH you see whichever doctor is "on" during your appt time for monitoring, etc.

I went for a consult with my RE based upon my ob/gyn's recommendation - ended up loving him.

I also went for a consult and one month of treatment with another dr based up on recommendations from people on this board and ended up not liking the dr, so went back to my original RE.

Re: How many consultations did...

I had a consult with Dr B. and while I think he would have done a good job the insurance thing had me changing. I have amazing insurance that covers it all and I just couldnt see paying out of pocket when there are plenty of other great drs out there.

I decided to go to Columbia, my sister used them, they take my insurance and their hours work with my schedule. I work in the city and couldnt miss work for all the monitoring appts. At Columbia all the monitoring is done early morning so I can get to work ontime.

I think its whether you feel comfortable with the Dr but you also need to tak into account the scheduling. If you are tryign to run from Dr to work you don't want the added stress of "Oh my god I am going to be sooooo late for work"

There are tons of great drs out there so I don't thin you will make a bad choice.

Re: How many consultations did...

i went to dr. B due to recommendations on this board. after the appt i never looked further and it was the best decision i ever made. his personality really clicked for me, which i think is really important on the IF journey since its so time consuming and sensitive. i feel like dr. B is more of a friend than a doctor at this point.

Re: How many consultations did...

When I started the process I had 2 doctors in mind. Dr.Braverman and Dr.Herslag, both were recommended from my OBGYN and then again from this board. I did start with Dr.B and never moved on. I was very upset with his schedule at first and some issues with appts but since then I have decided to stay with him. For me, he is a good fit. If I ever do need a 2nd opinion I would go to north shore since I have heard great things.
