How long would you let a cough (wet) go before seeing a doc?

God I hate when she's sick. Chat Icon

Sounds like a cold. She had green gunk in her eyes one day but that's never come back (yeah us).

Still she's had this wet cough for days now. Lately she's been spitting up phelm after a bout of coughing. Everything has been clear fluid.

This morning at 3am she woke up screaming cause i guess coughing hurt? Chat Icon or was it her molars? She couldnt get comfy and couldnt sleep without coughing which would upset her and get her screaming again.

Yes I said screaming, no crying. Chat Icon She sounded like we'd poked her with a needle. Finally she got so tired her screams became cries of exhaustion.

She still couldnt sleep so we gave her IBprophen (is this bad?) cause we figured her throat was bothering her. She had already gotten 6oz of milk by this point too. After another 15mins of crying, arching her back, I started to rub her belly, thinking it was gas.

Well I don't know which of the above was the key but finally she settled and fell off into a deep sleep. Barely moving.

This morning she could have slept longer but we woke her up when we changed her shirt (it was icky from spitting up the night before). She seemed happy and alert. Still has that cough but I SWEAR it sounds like its a tad bit drier, finally. I dont know if thats just the Mom in me hoping she's getting better or if its real.

So she has a doc appt next week, which im definately keeping now. But if this keeps up do you think I should take her in earlier?

ETA: can i just say I really hope the heatlh reform doesnt go through. I thank gods that my company contributes so much into my health care and also gives us credits but still so much I have to pay out of pocket, I couldnt take on anymore.

It really hurts to decide if I should buy food or take AJ to a doctor. *sigh*

I think I'm going to have to wait another day.. HOPE and pray this darned cough takes a turn for the better by Friday night *crosses fingers*

Me too.

That is an infection, and my ped said that if it is coming out of the eyes, it is a decent infection

After a very long conversation with the extremely helpful nurseline, I am not taking AJ in to the doctor’s office. These people are awesome, took me through so many of my questions, offered advice, solutions and examples. I felt so good about what I was doing, not doing, should be doing, etc.

Basics: (there’s more info just keeping it brief)

Colds are hearty and take a long while to fully clear.
Cough can last up to 3weeks
Runny nose can last up to 2weeks
Conjunctivitis (the eye gunk) can be caused by the cold

Giving her Ibprophen is fine and recommended before she goes to sleep to avoid inflammation of her throat and lungs from coughing
Giving her a half tablespoon of honey 3 times a day will help soothe her throat and the cough. Helping to create saliva.

Chat Icon I just FEEL better talking to them! wow.. never knew that would be possible.

(PS: Yes I asked AGAIN about the swine flu shot, they are 'recommending it' but not enforcing it. I gave her my very blunt reasons why I didnt want it and she was totally understanding and agreed it wasnt necessary at all just an option. Swine flu is on the decline here in SATX so she said pass on it for now)

I thought kids under 2 weren;''t supposed to have honey? Maybe I'm wrong....I am a freak andd take my kids to the Dr whenever I think they are sick. They had RSV and I like to be on top of their condition get their oxygen sat, etc.

Poor thing....i would take her anyway if it doesnt get better in another day, they cannot diagnose things like RSV over the phone.....they need to listen to her chest.

Also the honey? I too thought babies were not allowed honey?

Hope she feels better ASAP! Chat Icon

BabyCenter

FYI folks.. one year is the cut off ..under one year no honey..after one year its acceptable.

from link:
If adults or children over 1 year old eat these spores, it's harmless, because their bodies have built up an immunity to them. But they are harmful to babies, whose digestive and immune systems aren't fully developed.
