How long does it take your accountant to do your taxes?
We had an appt. on Feb 17. But, we forgot something, so we faxed it to him on Feb 20.
He said he'd mail our completed taxes to us in a week.
We called on that date, and they said they needed a few more days.
I haven't heard from him. So, I emailed him to tell him that I'm concerned. He wrote back saying "we'll contact you soon to discuss your return"
DH has an LLC, with a filing deadline of MARCH 15, not April 15.
I also left him a message to tell him that I want to come in on Saturday to pick up my completed taxes.
Am I being unreasonable here?

What annoyed me was that even though I forgot a document, he said that he hadn't planned on doing them on the spot.
ARGH.
I have the WORST luck with accountants. Last year's accountant wouldn't book an appointment with me any earlier than April 10 and then she robbed me blind!

This would bother me. I've heard of other accountants doing this too, not actually doing your taxes in front of you. It doesn't make sense to me. My accountant does them electronically with me there. He sits at the computer and there are 2 screens so DH and I can see everything he is doing.

took about 2 hours on saturday- he did the federal and NY
then he finished up my CT state return for me on sunday and we went back to pay and sign

I am a CPA and I don't do anyone's taxes right in front of them. LLC returns need to be done by March 15th, but if you got me your stuff on 2/20, they would not be done yet. It is done on a first in first out basis. So IMO you are being unreasonable, but if they promised it to you on a certain date they should have it for you then. My office handles more corporate returns then personal returns so we do the corporate or LLC returns first.

If I may ask, why don't you do returns in front of people? I've always wondered why some do and some don't.

Before becoming a SAHM I was an a glorified secertary (office manager without the salary) for a small accounting firm. We never did returns infront of the clients. Most of our personal returns were the owners of corporations. A lot of people don't have just w2's. Many people have stocks that were either sold or bought. If they are sold I believe you need what it was purchased and alot of the times the client didnt remember so that takes some leg work. We always reviewed the previous tax documents given to us to what was for the new year and made a comparsion. Alot of times people would forget to give us infomation. Their are so many factors you can go and on. I wouldnt go and call their everyday. They know they have to get it done and it really wont make them get it done faster they will probably just avoid it until they are done. I know it doesnt sound right but I dont think people realize how busy January to April15th really is. Another thing is that 1099;s are due to be filed to the government on Feb. 28th so I am sure they had companies they still needed to get done we always did whether it was company we forgot, a new company or ones needed to be corrected. All returns went on the back burner durning that week.
I would just let them know that you do not want to go on extension for the LLC.

How complicated are your taxes?
I LOVE Turbo Tax. I do them online. One year I had a really complicated mess (tons of forms) and it took me step by step. No problems.
After going to the same guy for years and getting audited because of his negligence (thankfully I just had to supply them with the info they needed and it was all good) I swear by Turbo Tax!

If he would SHUT UP for five minutes it would only take about 15-20 minutes but he likes to TALK and TALK and TALK some more...
So if we get out of there within an hour or two we are LUCKY.
He gets me a good refund so I deal.

How long does it take your accountant to do your taxes?
An hour...in front of us. That's what our appointment is for. Her time to do our taxes.
My husband also owns a business and this includes going through all his business expenses and write offs.
