How long does a cold last on average? Pls help!!
DS got one his first week in daycare. Here we are 3 weeks later and he still has the cold (which is just NOW finally starting to drain out his nose - and is stuffing him up so he can't sleep at night  he wakes up choking and can't breathe). He is getting over his 2nd ear infection from this same cold, on his 2nd course of antibiotics. DO colds really last this long? How much longer should I expect it to go on? I am afraid he will be like this all winter 
I am using a vaporizer, saline drops/boogie sucker, inclined the crib (actually this doesn't help at all, even in the swing he is choking and can't breathe. The boogie sucker is not getting as far back as where his mucous is, I can hear it but not see it) I have a call into the Dr. to ask about a decongestant. I hate giving him so many meds so young (3 months) :( The only way he slept last night was sitting totally upright in my arms or up on my shoulder. Any other position and he'd keep waking up. I jus thope he gets better soon

I am sorry- colds are the worst.
How old is he? They say not to use decongestants until at least 6 months i think.

He is 3 months. That's what I'm afraid of, that we're SOL and it just has to run it's course. Only for him to pick up something else at daycare  So much for sleeping through the night...it was good while it lasted, all 2-3 weeks of it...
Good thing I am over obsessing about having him on a schedule!

Michael's colds ALWAYS last a full 10 days - it's like they know, as soon as day 11 hits he's back to normal...

Gianna's daycare colds seem to last forever, and just when we thought she was over it, she got another one.
She had one for 3 weeks, and then it got worse, we finally brought her to the dr, she did recover from one, then got hit with another. We wound up getting 3 consective colds with the last one being the worst.
Its awful, there's not much you can do but elevate the head, put a cold mist humidifier in his room and give him bendryl for the stuffiness.
We gave gianna 1/4 teaspoon every 4 hours, it helps sooooooo much with the congestion.

That's what I keep telling myself we have a Dr. appt today, they want to see him again since he seems to be getting worse instead of better. They can also re-check his ears and maybe prescribe a decongestant. After the horrible diarrhea he got from the 2nd antibiotic I don't want to put him on any more meds...but if it helps him of course I will. I just feel so bad being at work, it is so hard to juggle everything I know it will get better but this is just one of those days...thanks for listening

acidopholus (sp?) helps the stomach when you're taking an antibiotic, but I'm not sure at what age it's safe to take it. If he had diarrhea from the meds ask the ped about taking that to avoid it next time.
