How long do you wait to deposit checks?

DH and I went to a wedding back around May 15th. It seems like the couple STILL hasn't deposited our check.


I can understand waiting to get back from the HM, but it's almost a MONTH later!

I usually deposit checks right away, or at least every Friday when I get paid.

i'm really bad with this, i admit

we have purchased large amounts of tickets for friends for games and concerts etc and asked them to give us checks instead of cash for payment. Sometimes the checks will sit for 2 weeks until we have time to go to the bank and deposit them. We can't go during the week, and on weekends there are always a million things going on that sometimes we forget

I usually deposit them within the week. Do you know if they went on an especially looooong honeymoon or something? If not, I would almost be worried that they did not get the check and want to call the Mother of the Bride/Groom to politely ask them to make sure they got the gift. Are you familiar enough with their families to do that?

are you kidding? The checks went in the bank via my father while we were on our honeymoon.

It's possible they haven't set up a new joint account yet and getting to the bank together has been a challenge.

we had a joint account before we got married.

wedding checks were deposited the day after the wedding, on our way to the airport.

i usually deposit within days

Whenever I remember.

When DH and I got married, we didn't have an account set up together...we couldn't find the time leading up to the wedding to get TO the bank at the same time.

So we didn't deposit our checks until almost a month after we got married...it was the first time we had the chance to do it.

The cash on the other hand, went in my account the next day!

If checks were made out to Mr. & Mrs. Cxxxxxxxx we had to wait until the marriage certificate came to deposit it. The bank would not deposit it since that wasn't my name on the account.

To answer your question, I deposit checks right away.

we deposited our checks 10 days after the wedding when we returned home from the HM. i usually don't wait longer than 1 week in any other situation.

That's why I don't write checks!!! I hate waiting on someone else to deposit it.

As for me, I always deposit the next day.

I go to the bank one a month and deposit anything I have at that time. If I get a check the next day it waits until the next month's banking day.

I have to admit that I'm bad about this, Our wedding checks we deposited within a month I think.

I never go to the bank, so I pass the checks on to DH (when I think of it) and he deposits them next time he goes to the bank (usually within a few weeks). More than once I have found checks months later that never got deposited.

Who did you make the check out to? Mr. and Mrs. X or the bride/groom's name individually?

We had a really hard time depositing wedding checks made out to Mr. & Mrs. X and had to wait a couple of weeks to show proof of marriage.

I usually deposit checks right away, bc I know how annoying it can be to wait for a check to clear!

we deposited our checks from our wedding two days later b/c we were going on a 1 month honeymoon

I try to do it as soon as possible, i hate when i have to wait for other people to cash my check, so I get it done right away.

Personally if I were you I would contact them about it.

I deposited my checks rather early. But I did have someone contact me about a month or two or maybe even more later, asking if I deposited their check because the money never came out... I NEVER got their check!!! It was TOTALLY MIA!! And I actually found out I might be missing a few other envelopes as well.

It's possible a few of my envelopes were stolen for the cash and the ones they took with checks they discarded. I did have a BM who ended up stealing from another BM at my wedding (she really went off the deep and and needless to say we are no longer friends bc she stole from A LOT of people). I can't blame her because I don't know for sure.... but the thought has def crossed my mind.

So for safety reasons, I would call them and ask about it.

It takes us forever to deposit checks. We never go to the bank and really aren't waiting on the money that the check is for so it's kind of a matter of whenever it's convenient.

We deposited our wedding checks right when we got back from our honeymoon.

Before you were able to deposit checks at the ATM, it would take me forever.

I hate going to the bank, so I would let it go for a month or 2.

Now, I can just deposit to any ATM, so I'll do it right away.

I do it ASAP, especially if it's a personal check.

I find it so incredibly rude to hold onto personal checks for too long.
