How long do you let a cold go before seeing the ped?
DD has been sick since monday so this is only day three. She has a runny nose (clear), no fever, and a little cough I think just from all the mucus. She's never had more than a runny nose for a day or two so I've never taken her in for a cold before. She's eating, sleeping, playing like normal. My gut is to just wait it out but wanted to get some opinions. She's almost 2.

As long as she is acting normal & no fever I would wait it out.

Re: How long do you let a cold go before seeing the ped?
I wouldn't go to the ped at all, it's just a cold and there is nothing they can do for them anyway. With colds, they just have to ride them out and it could take a few days to over a week for a cold to completely clear up.
I would just give saline nose drops, use the humidifier, and if she should get a fever maybe a little Tylenol but other than that it needs to just run its course. From what you said she seems otherwise normal so I don't really see the need to take her to the ped.
Hope she feels better!

I wouldn't for those symptoms even if it lasted a week or two. My DS constantly has a runny nose so unless there is a fever just ride it out. They won't do anything for you other than tell you its a cold.

Cold symptoms can linger for weeks so as long as there is no fever, etc- I wouldn't go at all. It just has to run it's course.

I dont, unless it starts to effect their breathing or I feel like it is settling in their chest and its becoming an issue. I dont.

My ds has had a runny nose for 6 weeks and I haven't taken him. There's nothing they can do. It's just back to back to back colds ( he just started daycare).
If he had a fever or was acting sick, not eating etc, then I would take him in . But not for just a runny nose

3 days. ..
Why? Because AJ always got ear infections. She never got fevers. So about 4 days into a 'cold' Id go in to check on her ears. That is if her cold included coughing and runny nose.

Re: How long do you let a cold go before seeing the ped?
As other posters said... I don't for a cold. My 4 yr old is in school and 2 yr old goes to preschool so they are just going to have a runny nose on and off through winter. Once winter ends my 4 yr olds allergies will start. Fun! If a fever occurs or they are really uncomfortable, pulling at their ear, not sleeping, low-grade fever then I'd go.
Keep using Saline, Vicks, lots of liquids, humidifier, etc.

I never go for a cold bc there is nothing they can do. I only go if I think they have an ear infection or a cough that is not good. With those symptoms I would wait. Ped says a runny nose from a cold can last more than 7 days.

I always wait unless there's a 101+ fever, which in my child normally indicates ear infection. It's like clockwork
