How long do they let you go

Does anyone know how long they will let you go when you go over your due date? Like 1 or 2 weeks?

Usually they do not let you go past 2 weeks....My friend was due on 11/2/06 and she had the baby on 11/14/06

depends, my doc wouldn't let me go past 1 week, but I know some docs who let their patients go weej 42, they are most comofrtable waiting since the due date may have been miscalculated so they hold off

My doctor will induce me at 41 weeks. I'm not sure if she does that for everyone or if it depends on the patient.

Depends on the doctor, but I'm pretty sure that most won't let you go past 2 weeks. The likeliness that the baby will have it's 1st bowl movement in-utero is pretty hight then.

My doctor won't let me go past 41 weeks.

I was induced 12 days late - didn't have the baby until I was 13 days late

42 weeks was my doctor's restriction. I do know that they start pushing for induction after 40 weeks.

They will not let you go past 42 weeks. My doctor did not push at all and I let her know my wishes that I did not want to be induced at all if it was not necessary. She never mentioned induction to me. I went 5 days late.

My dr's office doesn't let you go more than 1 week late.

They started asking me about induction at 38-39 weeks as long as i was dilated/effaced. I go to a big practice, and lots of women want their doc to deliver them.

I don't think any OB will let you go more than 42 weeks - I think I read it starts becoming dangerous for the baby.


I think most OBs take it case by case. My OB wanted me to go to the 42 weeks, but my friend, who is very petite, was induced on her due date, because of her size.

14 days is the tops - but many doctors won't even let you go that far - and will induce after about a week. The longer you go the more stressful it can be on the baby and you increase your risk of the baby swollowing meconium, as well as other issues.

When I was pregnant with DD, I think they told me probably 10 days would be the most.

I want to try for a VBAC this time, and unfortunately, they will not let me go past "a few days" as they said...before I go in for another c/s automatically.

Typically, the max. is 2 weeks. Doctors make individual decisions for each woman though based on how she's progressing.
