how long did you wait before you told your family?

I don't have my first drs appt for another three weeks and I don't think I can't wait that long! We will be seeing both of our families this weekend and DH really wants to tell his parents. I'm on the fence!

Re: how long did you wait before you told your family?

We told our parents and siblings. I told some of my close friends as well. (I am 5 weeks)

To tell you the truth, try to hold out. I regret telling everyone so early and now I am really nervous about our first appointment ( not until Dec 8 ).

If I could do it all over again, I would have waited until the appointment and then be able to tell everyone and felt GOOD about it instead of feeling like we were jinxing it.

I told them the moment I knew with all pregnancy. When I had my first M/C they were all really great and supportive and got me through it. I am a firm believer in if something bad is going to happen it's going to happen weather I say something or not. HTH

Re: how long did you wait before you told your family?

We told both sets of parentstwo weeks after we found out, I was 6 weeks then. We live in VA so we wanted to tell them in person, and knew we would be in NY then. I would have liked to have waiting for the first sono, so we could use the pic to show them. It wouldn't have worked out with timing, and visits. We told BIL & FSIL the night we got the BFP on the digital. They live 10 minutes away, and we knew we couldn't hide it.

We told my mom at 5 weeks and my brother at 10 weeks. We're 12w3d and still haven't told anyone else. I've had 3 MCs this year so I'm very superstitious about it but I was that way with DS too pre-MCs

This is why DH wants to tell them this weekend b/c we won't see his family again until christma and he doesn't want to wait that long. My family lives 5 mins away and I talk to them 10 times a day. Its killing me!!

Re: how long did you wait before you told your family?

I literally took a pic of my bfp and texted it to our parents, sils, and my 2 bffs after about half an hour (just enough time to go to the pharm and buy a few more to make sure, lol). I waited til my first sono at 7 weeks to tell the rest of the world i.e. cousins and put it on FB- b/c my MIL was so insistent on waiting til the first dr. appt AT LEAST. (She ALSO got preg on her honeymoon, but lost it a few weeks later) so I guess she was superstitious and just worried.

I can def sympathize with people who have had bad experiences and wait to tell (and even got some neg comments from people when I told at 7 wks) but for me personally I felt like having a secret would not make a m/c any easier/ people knowing wouldn't make it harder- ESPECIALLY our own parents. I would want them to be there for me. But then it's hard to alk b/c it never happened to me.

Re: how long did you wait before you told your family?

I'm 25 weeks, and much of my extended family doesn't yet know. We weren't trying and have been telling everyone since we got engaged that we wouldn't be ready for kids for another few years. So I wasn't quite ready to deal with all the attention.

We only told people who we see a lot and couldn't avoid. But I think I'll be coming out this Thanksgiving.

about 1 min after I took a test!

I am not one for keeping things from my family. The only reason I can see why ppl wait is b/c they are scared of a miscarriage - but for me, I wold want the support from my family if something were to happen. plus I am really bad at keeping secrets!

Completely agree. We waited until about 6-7 weeks to tell our families because DH wanted to wait until the first doctor's appointment... I still haven't seen the heartbeat or anything so I really didn't see the point but it made him happy.

Last time we told everyone as soon as we saw them face to face, which was between the day after I found out and a week after.

LOL same here!! I couldn't wait to tell them. Besides, had anything gone wrong, I would have wanted their support anyway.

We waited until 11 1/2 weeks to tell our parents. We didn't want to tell anyone until we were out of the first trimester but, my parents came over and it was a good opportunity. We started telling everyone else after we had our 12 week sono.

I did tell a couple of friends, who didn't have any connection to my family, beforehand.
