how long

im not trying to get personal or cross any boundaries...
im just wondering how long you ladies have been ttc?

DH and i plan to start soon but i just dont know how soon to start. in his head there is a month he wants me to get a bfp, but i know it doesnt work that way!!! (don't we all wish it did??!?!)

I am really the first one in the group of my friends to ttc so i dont have anyone to talk to about it...
we are just trying to figure out when to stop the BCP

Re: how long

IMO I would stop BC now if you are thinking about TTC soon. I went off thinking my body would get back to normal right away and it didn't, so I wish I stopped earlier.

Re: how long

This is such a hard question to answer for yourself! We have been TTC for almost 2 years.
That's how long its taking us... but some girls hit the baby jackpot on their first try.
I would say once you feel slightly more ready than not ready... go with your gut and go for it.

Sept 2007 - Went to RE (Started on Metformin)
Dec 2007 - Ovulated on my own
Jan 2, 2008 - IUI and BFP 10 days later

Went back to RE in Sept 2009 to TTC #2. Over the course of a year (Sept to Sept) we had about 7 IUI's (I lost count) all with Clomid and IUI's and had 3 miscarriages and the rest of the IUI's didn't take.

September 2011 - STILL TTC #2!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: how long

Honestly, some people will get pregnant the first month off of BC! And some will take months or years.

For a woman under the age of 35 that is not on BC, the average TTC time is 1 year. If you're over 35, your chances are lower so your OB will usually ask that you try 6 months before they elevate to an RE.

I know that doesn't help you, but I would say that you should stop BC whenever you feel that you would be ready and happy to receive a BFP because it COULD happen right away. For example, don't go off BC this month, if you absolutely don't want to get pregnant before December. KWIM?

At the same time, don't think if you get off BC this month, you will have a BFP next month.

Wish you lots of luck!

Re: how long

We started in May so 5 months.

I started seeing a RE right away because I have PCOS and have very long cycles (90+ days)

Re: how long

The answers will vary a lot. I know many people who have gotten pregnant in their first month of TTC. With that said, we are on cycle 14.

ETA: My cycles were normal right away when I went off the pill (28-30 days)

Re: how long

Started TTC in January 2010. Got a BFP in March (my 3rd cycle trying) had a MC in April. Started trying again in June. Got a BFP in August and MC in September. Decided to see a RE because I knew something was wrong. So glad I did bc I had a bunch of things wrong and my body kept on attacking the new fetus. He said I had about a 5% chance to maintain a pregnancy without any medication.

Started medication in November, had my first IUI in December..and BFP with Quadruplets. At 8weeks, one of the babies hearts stopped beating...but now 9 months later I have beautiful 2 month old Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon !

I always thought I would get pregnant right away with no problems what so ever. As you could see I had no problem actually getting pregnant, but my body couldn't hold on to a pregnancy. It is different for everyone. And I was also the first out of my friends to start TTC. My advice for all my friends who keep going back and forth about when they want to, bc they think that it happens right away, is to go for it. If I knew I would have all these issues, I would have started TTC much earlier, and seen a doctor earlier to save me from an EXTREMELY emotional year.
