How Important Is Position??

Hi! I've heard that the having the guy on top or from behind are the best for TTC. Sorry for the personal question but, what do you guys do? Do you just do these positions?

I guess I am concerned b/c we cant do these positions due to this nagging injury DH has. (sorry to complain about it again)

Do you think the position is that big of a deal?

Re: How Important Is Position??

Ive heard (and read) that its not the position that necessarily matters so much as the timing. I suppose if you are ovulating it doesnt really matter what position. However, Ive heard differently too..boy, I guess I wanst much helpChat Icon

I heard this too. The reason I read was that the sperm will be closer to the cervix and have less to travel leading to greater survival. When the woman is on top gravity is working against the cause.

This is what I have heard to but I would TOTALLY not stress about it. . I know things are hard with the injury. .I figure that when you are "done' get on your back, put your hips up and you should be fine. . everyones cervix is in a different position too so I have also heard that after spending some time with your hips (elevated on some pillow or something, spend five minutes on each side and your stomach) then get up when you need to. . anyway that's what worked for us when it worked. . probably overkill but hey. . You can defiantely get pregnant from any position - its just some increase your chances by a small percent.

Ive heard from behind is better for those with a tilted uterus - it gives a better angle to the cervix - so we try this one alotChat Icon

i've heard position is irrelevant as long as you lay down afterward for 15-20 minutes to prevent, um, spillage Chat Icon

Thanks everyone! Very interesting about laying on each side for 5 min, never knew that. I will try it! i always laydown for 20 minutes after just to be safe! It gets so boring though, LOL. No tv in the room and DH always gets up. He sends our dog in to lie next to me so I have company!! :)

yeah the side thing I read in a book but who knows? I think half the stuff they write is just to drive people crazy! but supposedly it's just bc everyone's cervix is at a different angle so this helps make sure it gets "coated" or whatever. .but overall I agree with the PPs who said.. it's probably going to get where it needs to go regardless!
