Too far to be worth it.
The LIRR is more expensive, but only something like 15 mins to Penn, but for most people, you'll have to walk an extra few blocks past the subway.
Think about it this way -- if you're going to be on the train for 45 minutes, which train would you prefer to be on? subway where you can leave when you want, but have to stand next to smelly people or LIRR where you're tied to a train schedule, but can (in theory) accomplish something while on the train?
