How does this sound - IVF related
This is my first IVF cycle ever so I have some questions about what is "normal".
Today is CD8 and I have been on Lupron since CD21 of last cycle and Follistim 225 nightly since Friday (so 5 nights so far).
Today at monitoring my lining is 9 and triple layered, so I know that is good. On my right side I have four eggs at size 10 and six others under. On my left side I have a 13.5, 13, 10 and four others under ten. Is that a good amount? Seems to me that if you add them all up that is only 17 total and odds of them all making it seems slim. Could more possibly grow? What size will they take out of me, or do all come out, even little ones? I am greedy and want a lot of eggs and lots extra to freeze.
Also I was wondering, why do I have to do a trigger shot if they are taking them out of me? I am afraid when I trigger they will release before the Dr can get them!
And finally I would like to tell you all how my head is up my arse! When the nurse said to undress from the waist down I did, as I was sitting there something felt "off", so I sat and sat and realized I am freaking wearing my underwear! Thank goodness I got them off in the nick of time before the tech came in.

Re: How does this sound - IVF related
first off dont worry about the trigger. you do that so they can retrieve them from the follicles. without the trigger they could keep growing and turn to cysts or ovulate on their own. without the trigger you cant guarantee that they will release. the trigger is timed very specifically from your ER so that they go in at optimal time to retrieve all eggs. also natural ovulation might not release all eggs, even mature ones, so you need the trigger in order to release every egg at the precise time.
17 is a great number. the number on sono never matches the number retrieved, it can go either way. you cant really be greedy, whatever it is it is. 17 is fine. and the more you have and the higher your e2 the better the chance of OHSS which could lessen the chance of implantation if your e2 is over 5000 (which doesn't happen all that often). 17 is def a good number!!! and since your follies are small still, others can absolutely catch up. i wouldnt be too concerned at this point, your response is absolutely fine and text book.
and i def did the underwear thing once or twice too hang in there!

i think that sounds like a great number! and you never know how many more will grow. you have to trigger because that's what makes the eggs ready for retrieval. They completely mature only when you have an LH surge (trigger shot) Everything is so well timed...for me, exactly 36 hrs after i triggered i had my ER. Don't worry they will get them in time!

Re: How does this sound - IVF related
17 is a great number!!! The nurse at my RE's office said that egg quality can decline with higher #'s. I had 18 my first fresh IVF, and we ended up with 2 to transfer and another 6 good ones to freeze (we lost 2 during the thaw process though). This time I had 41 eggs and we transferred one and only 6 made it to freeze! So it's not always better to have more eggs.
I was told that 26mm is the largest they will let them get before the trigger. The others have plenty of time to grow (they will probably put you on Ganirelix or something similar to suppress ovulation to let the others catch up), and you will probably have more little ones that might not be mature at the time of retrieval. My last sono before the ER I had 25 follies, but when they actually went in they retrieved 41 eggs. You sound like you're responding great to the meds, so try not to worry!

Posted by OrganicMama So it's not always better to have more eggs.
ITA! My first IVF I had 13 embryos and only had my one DS from it. My 2nd IVF I only had 4 embryos and I'm pregnant with twins! My RE lowered my meds the second time because he said there are studies that show too much stimming could negatively effect egg quality.
17 is perfect, you only need a few really good ones!
Good luck!!
