how do you prepare bottles with powder?

ok i know this may seem like a dumb question but i mean do you make all the bottles for the day at once? or do you make them as you need them?

what do you do when youre going out?

i bf for the first few weeks exclusively then introduced rtf formula, and am thinking of switching to powder soon but the rtf just seems so much easier.

how do you do it?

how do you prepare bottles with powder?

I always used room temp bottled water and made them as I go. When I was out I would fill the bottles with the water and put the powdered formula in the formula dispensers.

Re: how do you prepare bottles with powder?

Depends on the day. If I am home I just make it as needed.
If I am running out I fill up the powder dispenser with one or two filled with the amount needed and a bottle with bottled water to go.
If I know I am going to be out all day then the dispenser gets filled and I take a few bottled waters and bottles to be prepared. Rather have more than less.

Re: how do you prepare bottles with powder?

For the first 6 months I mixed them as I went. I'd fill one of those formula dispensers each night for the next day and then when DD was ready for a bottle I'd just pour the water and formula in the bottle and mix.

When she started daycare at 6 months they required all bottles to be premade. So I bought the Dr. Browns mixing pitcher and started mixing formula each night for the next day. It's good for 24 hours. So I'd mix it and fill the bottles each night for the next day. If we were going out I'd just pack the bottles in a bottle cooler bag with ice packs and DD would either take it cold or I'd run it under warm water for a few to make it room temp. Worked great for us.

Formula powder dispenser and room temp. Poland spring water. I made as I went because it goes bad after an hour if not kept refrigerated.

I made them as I needed them.

If I was out and about, I used the individual packets or a formula dispenser. Since I had a bad experience with a leaky bottle - I carried a bottle of water with me and put it into the bottles as needed.

i use room temperature water and make them as needed - if im home or on the go.

those powder dispensers are great because you pre-measure the amount of formula. then depending how long i am gone for ill either just take one bottle and fill it with the water or ill grab a bottle of poland spring along with a few empty bottles and pour as needed.

the RTF is great - but i dont think it can sustain being outside in these temperatures for too long

Re: how do you prepare bottles with powder?

I would use the Dr Brown's pitcher and make enough formula for 24 hours b/c I personally hated making each individual bottle. I would pour into bottles as needed. If I were going out & knew that I would feed the baby within 2 hours, I would just pour myself a bottle form the Dr B's pitcher and throw into my bag. If I were going to feed DC after 2 hours, I'd keep the bottle in a small insulated bag like this one. click

I make the bottles with powder only and then add the water when I'm ready to use a bottle. I use Playtex Drop Ins so when I go out I keep one bottle in my bag with extra liners and pre-measured formula in a separate container.

I think powder is easier, you don't have to keep the bottles chilled when you're out. I keep a bottled water in my diaper bag along with a little five ounce bottle to measure water.

I always prepped my bottles the night before with formula measures right in the bottle, then add my filtered tap right into it.

If we were out, I'd put my measures powder in my bottles, then bring a bottle of water. Voila! Easy peasy.

If I'm out I bring a the powder and a thermos of warm water with me and mix them as I need it. No need to warm since the water is warm.

I used drop in bottles and traveled with a bottle and nipple for each baby and extra sleeves. I also carried either a couple of bottles of water or one of those personal brita water bottles that filter the water or just bought a bottle of water when I needed one. Mostly i would fill the britta bottle before I left and then mixed as needed. Sometimes I carried extra nipples and collars if I was out for a long day. I breast fed too but had to supplement with formula.

Re: how do you prepare bottles with powder?

I used filtered water and made the formula for the day in the dr browns pitcher. Made life so much easier. I would then either take out some in a bottle or just take a small powder can with me and a bottle of water and mix the 2 later on. It's really not a hard as it sounds.

Eta: you don't even need to spend money on a formula dispenser. I kept refilling a sample can I had and always kept that in my diaper bag.

how do you prepare bottles with powder?

I would grab empty bottles and a 1 liter bottle of water and the can of formula. I spent a lot of time out of the house the first 6 months of DS's life so I never knew how long I would be gone. We used RTF at home but once I opened a powder can it did have to be used in a certain time. I would just make a pitchers worth and fill bottles. Much easier to grab and use when needed.

I use the Dr browns pitcher in the AM, and make all bottles. If I'm going out, I fill a bottle with filtered water, and carry powder in a dispenser.

I use the dr browns pitcher and mixe enough for the next day and fill the bottles. If I'm going somewhere I just use the cooler bag. If its my moms I can put them in the fridge. If I was going out for the day I'd use pre filled water bottles and mix the proportioned powder in.

We did this! I found that this saved me so much time and aggravation during the day. My DH would wash all the bottles from the day and make the next day's worth all at once.
