I think I follow what Paula Deen does- put the eggs in, cover with cold water, bring to a boil, then cover and turn off.
Let sit to cool.

Re: how do you make hard boiled eggs?
I put the eggs in the pot.......from start to finish I probably let them on the stove for about 25 minutes. So Im not sure in that time....how long theyre actually boiling.
Then I rinse them under cold water and let them sit in cold water for a little....then either refrigerate or eat them.
The yolk will always be hard......the less time it boils the more yellow the yolk...the longer it boils...the more the yolk turns that greyish green color on the outside.

Re: how do you make hard boiled eggs?
I used the steps listed on ehow.com:
1. Place eggs in the saucepan, it does not matter if it is 2 or 12 eggs, this way works. Just cover them with cold water, not too deep. Do NOT salt the water. Place on burner on HIGH heat.
2. Place on burner on HIGH heat. Once they start to boil turn on the timer to 3 minutes.
3. When the timer goes off, quickly take off the heat, put on the lid and reset the timer to 8 minutes.
4. When 8 minutes are up, take to sink and run cold water over them for about a minute, let them soak a bit to cool off. They will peel best if you set them in the refrigerator for about 1/2 to 1 hour, but you can eat them now!

I put the eggs into a saucepan and fill with water until it just covers them. Then I turn the stove to high and when it gets to a boil, I let them boil for 10 minutes, then run them under cold water.

Re: how do you make hard boiled eggs?
So many variations....same outcome
I do it the Betty Crocker way
In pot, cover eggs plus 1 inch with cold water Bring to boil Remove from heat, cover and let sit 20 minutes. Transfer eggs to a bowl filled with very cold water (to stop cooking process). Allow to cool.

I do it this way too and they come out perfect every time.

Re: how do you make hard boiled eggs?
we registered for an egg cooker and it's great! perfect eggs every time and you dont need to watch it.
i love hardboiled eggs but never wanted to take the time to let the water boil, cook them properly (i only like them 100% cooked through so i would always overcook them just in case), etc
we make eggs much more often with the egg cooker, and you can get ready in the morning while you let them cook :)
unnecessary for sure, but love ours

Re: how do you make hard boiled eggs?
I think for this conversation it's especially important to mention what size eggs you're talking about...
I boil water, add jumbo eggs, boil for exactly 14 min and run cold water over them.
perfect eggs every time! (no ring)

Re: how do you make hard boiled eggs?
I put them in the pot cover with cold water just above the eggs. Bring to a boil and once the water starts to evaporate i shut it off and rinse in cold water in the sink

This is the way my mom taught me and so this is how I do it.
