How do you know they're ready for 1 nap?

How do you know dc is ready to transition from 2 naps a day to 1?

Ds normally takes 2 naps a day. Around 9-9:30 for about an hour and a half to 2 hours and then again around 1-1:30 for an hour to an hour and a half.

Lately sometimes, ds will not take an afternoon nap. He plays for like 20 minutes and then will start crying.

It hasn't happened too much, but it's definitely happening more and more it seems.

ETA: ds will be 1 years old on the 30th.

ETA: i thought when they get ready to transition, they drop the morning nap. Chat Icon

Re: How do you know they're ready for 1 nap?

We went thru something similar at the same age, for us it was just a stage----I tried keeping him up later in the morning and it just didn't work, in fact DS was a disaster he was so tired. I found that if I didn't let him sleep past a certain time in the AM, he always took his afternoon nap. If there was a day he didn't nap in the afternoon, he would just go to bed early.
DS is now almost 17 months and has started to stay awake during what would be his morning nap (just playing in his crib), so I think we are close to the transition. HTH!

Yeah, pretty much----I found if I didn't put him to bed earlier on those days he slept poorly bc he was so tired.

Yeah we always put him to bed early when he naps poorly. But to miss the afternoon nap and be up since 10:30am... Chat Icon Chat Icon I don't know how he's going to even make it until 6pm (an hour earlier than bedtime).

DS's AM and PM naps were getting shorter, so i figured he was ready for 1. Once we did it, he napped longer them when he was taking 2 separate onesChat Icon

oh trust me, we're ready for the 1 nap a day. It's easier to schedule things that way. But his am naps haven't gotten shorter yet, so i guess we'll see.

how long did that transition take for you?

I "think" it took atleast a week before he got into the routine of it...their were a couple days where he ended up with 1 very short nap a day until his body adjusted but it quickly went to 2 hours as he was so tired and now many months later he takes anywhere from 2-3.5 hour napsChat Icon
