How do you get your one year old to nap
My 14-month old son is very active and I know when he is tired and needs a nap but sometimes it takes me over 40 minutes to just to settle him into a nap and then he only naps for 20-30 minutes. I sit with him in the rocker while he cries and squirms and eventually I will win and he will calm down and fall asleep but is there a better way?

How do you get your one year old to nap
I have to be honest with you i have the same problem with my 13 month old. And i wish i had an answer for you but my methods arent any better. I go for rides or walks with my dd until she falls asleep. She fights her naps and just becomes so cranky she throws a fit for everything. I dont do cio so thats not for me. I dont know what else to so. Some days im at my wits end and it makes me want to cry lol but your not alone!

Put him in his crib, tell him it's nap time, and leave the room. Even if he doesn't get it the first few days he will soon figure out that this means he should be sleeping. At the very least he will figure out it is quiet/self play time in his crib. I'm sure that if he's tired he will eventually fall asleep.

NAp time and bed time are the only reasons why my DD is still using bottles. I sit with her on the couch while she drinks it and then when she's done with it I turn her over onto my chest and pat her back until she falls asleep. I really want to get out of this habit but it's the only way she calms down especially with my almost 3 yr old twins running around like nuts.

I pretty much do this too. Sometimes they cry, play, talk but never cry hysterically. They are usually sleeping in 10 mins. I learned they need to go in at the first sign of tiredness so they arent overtired. Because then they are nuts.

I sing a short song, put her in the crib, turn on her musical seahorse and leave the room. Same routine since she was about 3 months. I would say 95% of the time she goes to sleep within a few minutes. Once in a while she screams and I'll pick her up. A little crying or fussing I don't mind but when it goes beyond that (usually bc she's overtired or teething) she'll just keep crying. In those cases I used to nurse her to sleep or go for a ride or just try again later.

DS is 15m old and naps at home are a nightmare. At dc he naps fine most of the time. But since he only naps at home on the weekends, his routine is thrown off. A lot of the time he ends up napping in the car to and from whatever activity we're doing that day. I did CIO at nighttime and that has worked for us but for naps...ugh. I've tried it and it works a handful of times but other times he will stand in the crib and scream for an hour and then I give up. Sorry I don't have any real advice, just wanted to say you're not alone!

I know with my 13 month old, routine is key. I put her down for her nap at the same time everyday. Diaper change, then I turn on her Violet for 10 minutes of bedtime music, and her sleep sheep. Some quick cuddles and kisses, give her her blankie, lay her down and then leave. Sometimes she falls right to sleep, other times it takes a bit longer, but then she'll just play and talk/sing for a bit.

I'm lucky that my DD is easy in this area. Her naps are about the same time every day (I'm only around for nap time on the weekends). I put her in a crib with a paci, turn on the sleep sheep, give her her lovey, and she's out. It's almost the same routine as at bedtime, but for bedtime, we use the sleep sack and she gets a story.

My girls are like Pavlov's dogs lol..the moment their white noise goes on, their heads go down. They just know that sound means it's sleepy time. Do you have white noise, a lovey? Something that he can associate with sleeping?

i have to agree. this is what i started doing with my DD at 8 or 9 months and she cried for a few days but to this day (25 months) she goes down with no trouble at naptime.

Same. My DD is 8-months-old and she knows her crib means it's time to sleep.

I say this about my DD too. The only time it doesn't work is when she's in the pack n play in a strange location. Then she needs some soothing from mommy to fall asleep.
