How do you cut/file baby's nails?
DD has a scratch on her face from her nails but she moves SOOO much its so hard to trim her nails
I don't want to use the baby scissors cause she moves so much....filing is a bit better with the baby emery board, but when do you all do it? When DC is sleeping?
Any tips?

I just do it after Im done feeding him. By then he is full and less wild. I do it in his HC. He likes it. That and the nose thing. He digs both. He is a nut.

I do it around bath time or post-feeding when he's most relaxed.

Re: How do you cut/file baby's nails?
When he was really small, I did it when he was sleeping. Once he was older, I did the toenails when he was in the highchair, because he couldn't see me. Once he could hold his own bottle, I started sitting him in front of the TV with the bottle and did it then, since he was distracted.
It remains my most hated baby-related chore. I had a face scratcher and really had/have to stay on top of it.

Re: How do you cut/file baby's nails?
I used to use the nail clippers when she was sleeping...well one time I accidentally clipped her finger...now my MIL does it for me...
No I will do it every once in a while but I do it when she it watching one of her favorite shows and actually sits down for 2 seconds.

I usually do it while they are in the high chair with the clippers. When they were little I used the nail file.

Safety first nail clipper with the magnifying glass. I only do it while shes sleeping. If her nails get too long and I didnt gte to them yet I put mittens on her.

I use a nail clipper and then file the edges when he is SLEEPING...he moves a lot less!

Re: How do you cut/file baby's nails?
During the first few months I did it when DD was sleeping. Around 4 months or so I started doing it in the bath and still do now (15 months).

Re: How do you cut/file baby's nails?
I just started to use the clippers this week on a couple of nails but I mainly use the filer. I do it right after the a bottle when she's pretty much asleep. Best advice...I leave a file out where I feed her (one in her room and one by the couch this way when I dont have to disturb her)

I just stick to filing her nails. I already knicked her finger with the nail clippers

Good post... I already pinched DS already trying to clip and felt so bad. Filing is hard b/c his nails or soft it doesn't do anything

This is my problem!!! Yet they are hard enough to scratch the crap out of me & DH!!! She actually scratched my nipple once when I was nursing her and I didn't realize it. Later when I was pumping, I started to bleed!!
So far I have tried an emery board, two different clippers (but it scares me), I bought baby scissors which I am afraid to use and a battery operated filer that doesn't really seem to work.
We joke that Ann will be in the Guinness Book of World Records next to the freaks with the curled up nails!!

Yea my dr. said to get emory boards but they do nothing! I got the clipper with the magnifying glass and it works really well. I do it when she's calm, usually after she eats when i'm changing her.

Re: How do you cut/file baby's nails?
I filed them for a long time, then switch to baby nail clippers, much faster.
I do it in her high chair or booster seat, when I have her strapped and trapped in. She hates it, especially her toe nails but it doesn't hurt and it has to get done.

duiring or after feedings with an emery board....my older dd too - she sits down and then I file her nails...I am to nervous even with an almost 3 yr old to use the clipper or scissors!
