How do u adress hygiene to another employee...
I am a social worker and i GUESS IT "COULD" BE MY JOB BUT HAS NEVER GOTTEN TO THIS POINT. A staff member came to my office asking for advice that another staffs breath is out of control. I actually tend to agree myself but I have never been one to tell someone "your breath stinks". I advised this staff to go to her supervisor and discuss her thoughts. She was kinda rambling on about disease and things being contagious etc... a little overexxagerated but I got the point. Do you think bad breath should be adressed and if so who should speak to this staff member? Me??? Please no...LOL

Usually HR would handle something like this, but in your case I think the direct supervisor should handle, not you.

Although bad breath is gross- unless that coworker is planning on making out with the aforementioned yuckmouth, I don't see how anything is CONTAGIOUS.
Honestly, when dealing with people with bad breath, I just go from nose to mouth breathing (and offer them gum).
Not your job, pass it along....

Tell the person to offer them gum. Some people just have bad breath either from smoking or drinking coffee. A friend of mine is like that and I ignore it. When I worked their was an employee that had horrible breath and a nice shade of limey green teethe to match that smell and my boss purchased $250 gift certificates to one of our clients office (she is a dentist) and gave the gc to everyone in the office thinking he would use it. He never did!! The funny thing was, when I was cleaning out his draw once he left the company I found a toothbrush and toothpaste

Re: How do u adress hygiene to another employee...
We had this problem years ago with a woman who was a smoker and ate fritos and coffee for breakfast.
You have no idea how foul a combination that is.
Plus, she was a file clerk so she was constantly around our desks.
Thankfully, she had a pretty outgoing personality so my supervisor just said, "Terry, my GOD, eat a box of tic-tacs, WILLYA?!"
I have someone I work with now who constantly has coffee-smoke breath. I have individually wrapped wintergreen lifesaver breath mints in a jar on my desk so when she comes over with her stinky breath, I take one out for myself and tell her that my breath stinks from all the coffee I drink, and then I offer her one. She usually gets the hint.

Say, "Hey did you just get back from lunch? What did you have, a sh*t sandwich?"
That may do the trick.

Re: How do u adress hygiene to another employee...
This is a tough one. Your first thought is how does one tell somebody they smell. I work in a plant, we have a huge workforce. This one boy in particular, one word describes his hygiene literally DISGUSTING!!! A couple of employees haed come up to me saying that they can no longer work with him, it's horrible. Being that I don't work with him, I said ok let me go down and see just how bad it was. Whew, his breath wasn't even an issue. It is overall body hygiene that is so bad I wanted to throw up. So I went to HR, and they were aware of the situation already. They told me that they would call him in to talk to him. So after they called him in. I went to find out what happened. Turns out that the kid is homeless and sleeps in his car. HR has given him deodorant and soap, and has given him info as to where he can go to clean up. I felt bad but come on, there are places. So after a couple of times of this happening. After awhile HR felt confident that I can handle this particular situation myself. So I had to talk to him one day. And I was dumbfounded. So I went and had a talk with him, I told him listen Jason. Abunch of your co-workers have made a couple of complaints about you. He of course asked about what. So I just said to him that they have been claiming that you hold a foul odor, and it is hard for them to work with you. And I explained to him that everyone is entitled by law to work in a comfortable and hostile free work environment, and the he needed to abide by the companys hygiene policy. I then offered him more soap, shampoo, conditioner toothbrush and paste. It was probab ly the most uncomfortable thing I have ever had to say to someone.

Oh Gosh...I give u credit! I am sure that was really uncomfortable for you. I cant imagine telling this guy his breath stinks. Most likely I will let HR take it over and pray that they dont call me.
