How do I teach DS to get down from stairs and stuff?
He makes me so nervous at the playground and when he goes up stairs.
He can get up, but he can't get back down and on the playground, he goes up the slide and onto the jungle gym and then gets stuck so I have to go in and get him.
How do you teach him to get down?

teach him to shimmy down on his bum. Do it yourself and try to get him to imitate you.

We had to teach Kaydyn early to go up and down stairs because she started showing interest in my ILs stairs around 8 months.
She could crawl up and then we would make her go down backwards, pulling her legs down to the next step and then help her with her arms.
She got it pretty quickly and was a champ on the stairs. Even now at 20 months she still is pretty careful about going down the stairs backwards.
At my mom's house she goes down forward on her butt...I'm not sure why...I'm assuming my mom taught her that last time she watched her...but she is good with that too so we let her do it.

I agree.
We also had a gate for our stairs at home & we moved it up a few so he had about 6 stairs to practice on.

I agree.
We also had a gate for our stairs at home & we moved it up a few so he had about 6 stairs to practice on.
Thanks!! I will try the butt shimmy.
Barb - do you have a picture or description of the gate? I can't picture how you would install a gate 6 stairs up.
