Re: when did you teach your dc to climb DOWN stairs?

DS started crawling up the stairs around 9 months or so (of course with me right behind him and still to this day). Around 10 1/2 - 11 mo. I started showing him how to go backwards down. Now at 13 mo. he will go backwards all the way down.

They kind of just learned on their own. They were 16 months. First backwards crawling and then standing up. Holding on to the railing.

Before they started crawling/walking!

For DS, he was around 6 months old. DD was a little older but not by much.

DD goes down backwards but lately she has been starting to hold onto the railing and trying to step down. It is kinda scary since she only sort of has the hang of it. She is almost 15 months.

when you teach them to go down. Teach them to go down on their TUMMIES. NOT facing forward. I've seen many kids, including my own get their legs stuck under them and go tumbling forward.

At about 14 months or so, I let DS go down on his own (on his tummy). Right around the time I found out I was pregnant! Chat Icon
I walk down the stairs with him (facing forward), but only allow it if I am holding his hand.
