I just bought DS an adjustable picnic bench and I think it's great! However, DS is 15 months and has decided to climb it like stairs and either sit or stand on the table part. When he does it he looks at me with a smile on his face because he knows he's not supposed to do it and is waiting for me to stop him. What is the right way to handle this? I've told him no and taken him off; I've taken him off without saying anything; I've pretended that I wasn't watching (but stood right behind him so he wouldn't fall) and waited for him to get down him self; I've given him lavish praise when he sat on the bench by himself. Now I have removed it from his play area.

I haven't really had to "discipline" him for anything so I'm not sure what I should do. Maybe he's just too young for it. Although he has no problem sitting at the table at school...
