My cat wont stop climbing our christmas tree

Does anyone know if there is ANYTHING I can do to stop or prevent this?? The second we put it up on the stand he climbed on in lol.. this is our first year with the cat.. he's about 9 months old if that matters.

I spray him with the water bottle when I see him, but we both work and I cant just keep him in a room all day.

Any advice???

I don't know what to do to prevent the tree climbing but we secure our tree to the ceiling. We use one of those screw in hooks and fishing wire and tie the top of the tree.

And we kept the breakables off the tree when the cats were young.

When our kitty was younger she did this - I could never find a way to get her to stop. After a couple of years they get over it.

Until then, as the PP said no breakables and no shiny stuff they would be attracted to chew on. (garland, tinsel, etc)

What I used to do when she was little was keep a spray bottle of water near by and used to squirt her with it. It worked for us and she is 10 now and rarely goes after anything she just lays under the tree sleeping.

We also don't leave anything that can break or that she can see herself in on the bottom. They will play with anything that is hanging.
