How did your DC walk for the first time?

Where they just cruising and let go and continue to walk, or let go of your hands, or just get up and go?

DS has been cruising for half his life, but he just cant balance himself to walk alone longer than 2-3 steps at a time. He just seems so top heavy and reaches his arms out and doesnt move his legs first. He's so cautious, not so much a daredevil, if he thinks he will fall he will just sit and crawl. He tries sooo hard all day to just let go of the couch and continue to walk but then his body goes before his legs and he reaches to stop and sit and crawl away. Its so disappointing to see because he wants to so bad and he just smiles while he's standing but he wont let go! Just wondering how your DC walked for the first time.

it started with us holding his hands and he let go. then he let go and took some steps. the last thing was him getting up from the ground by himself. that took awhile. he kept falling lol

He will get the hang of it.. my kids would wabble and take steps and fall and then just keep at it until they got it..

get a towel and twist it (so it's like a thick rope) and wrap it around his waist (under his armpits) from front to back hold onto it and let him walk that way too.. GL!

He will get the hang of it.. my kids would wabble and take steps and fall and then just keep at it until they got it..

As you know, it took DS a long time to walk too. He started when he was cruising, he would take a step between two things he was cruising on. Then it became 2 -3 steps between things. This was all in the same day. Then the next day he just walked across the room!

DD started walking super early...but basically she was cruising for a month or so and then Christmas Morning, my sister and I were sitting with her standing and she took a few steps from me to my sister..that week, she just kept getting more & more daring..and a week later she was walking. She's been walking for maybe a month now..and she's still a litlte unsteady. She sometimes walks like Frankenstein..we've even taught her to growl while doing it

Is he wearing shoes? DD is much steadier with shoes on.
I think he'll get than hang of it..do you try to encourage him? Like, I would walk away from DD a few feet and open my arms and she'd come to me..

DS is not there yet but my niece walked to me for the first time. She was cruising on a table and I held my arms out to her to walk to me while encouraging her. She took a few steps to get to me and that was it. She was full on walking after that.

Maybe try getting him to walk to you so he has his eyes set on something.

To our knowledge… daycare walked with her holding hands etc. But at home she just ‘walked’. She would push herself up to stand. She would be so excited that she could stand up on her own and balance. She’d shove her hands down at her feet and push up. She never used a couch or anything to balance or support her.

I have lots of video of her taking one or two steps. Barely. Then finally I got her actually walking. All about a week from the first stumble. We’d sit 2-3ft away and encourage her to walk. Come closer. I would hold a mirror up so she’d see herself. Or she’d reach for a balloon. Funny to watch them now. How much effort it took for each wide step.

DS started walking with walking wings and our hands at 7 months old. He wanted to go!

But, he would never take more than a few steps on his own-he was scared of falling!

A week after his birthday, we went to another kid's b-day party and they had balloons with strings on them. He was holding onto the balloon and walking all over the party. He just wanted something to hold on to, the little stinker. So I brought a balloon home with me to show DH that the kid could walk everywhere, just holding on to a string. After a day, we took the balloon away, and he was off from that day forward.
