How did you chose godparents?
Im honestly torn.. I want my brother to be the god father and my sister to be the god mother but shouldnt godparents be a couple? Would it be weird to have my bro and sister be godparents?

Re: How did you chose godparents?
no its fine, whatever you want to do! we probably won't do couples in our family either. I most likely will be picking my sister as the godmother and DH is picking his brother to be godfather.

Re: How did you chose godparents?
I dont think its weird. I'm a Godmother to my nephew and his Godfather is some guy who lives in Hong Kong. If I remember correctly. most of my friends kids have Godparents who aren't married much less know one another.
For us, we are asking my SIL. I wish I could have my brother but he passed away a few yrs ago. DH is thinking about asking his brother to be Godfather. The choice is his and I support it but it's tough b/c my BIL is not family orientated and never wants to see us or the rest of the family. Its a tough position to be in b/c if he doesnt pick his brother there will prob be hard feelings but if he does, our DC will most likely have a VERY uninvolved Godfather.

Re: How did you chose godparents?
DH picked one and I picked the other. We both have sisters and since my sister is the Godmother of my 1st son he asked his sister to be the Godmother for our son. So I picked the Godfather. I asked my son 1st since he is old enough but, he felt alittle funny. So I asked my uncle that I knew would be good to our DS and has never been anyone Godfather yet.

Re: How did you chose godparents?
eeny, meeny, miney, mo...
but seriously, to answer your question, they don't "have" to be a couple... mine aren't and neither are my brothers'.
With that said, DS's godparents are a couple, but the one of the twins' godparents will not be. Between DH and I we have 4 brothers, so neither one would ever have been a god parent... they're the only ones that hold the title of uncle. So we went with friends. DS' are our closest couple friends, #1's godparents are DH's long time friend from childhood for godfather and my long time friend from childhood for godmother. #2's godparents are another close couple.
IDK if this answers your question or not..

I didnt feel that they needed to be a couple. We chose my closest friend to be Godmother and DH's closest friend to be Godfather.

Re: How did you chose godparents?
My aunt & uncle (who were brother & sister) were my godparents so I don't think it's weird at all If your dh is on-board, then I say go for it!

I don't think it needs to be a couple at all. DS godmother will be my best friend and his godfather will be DH's older brother.

we chose one from my side (my brother) and one from his side (his sister). For the next one the godmother will most likey be from my side and the godfather from his side.

God Parents arent legal guardians upon death... they are just selected to guide the children in faith if neccessary..

That's not really how it's done these days. That was kind of an old-school thing. Nowadays, the godparents don't automatically take in the children if something were to happen to their parents. If you have more than one child, with different godparents, you wouldn't want to split up the kids anyway! I'm one of 5 and I know my parents had in their will that if something were to happen to both of them, my uncle (dad's brother) would become our guardian. That can be whoever you want it to be.

Re: How did you chose godparents?
Its funny because for DS #1 we were thinking of DH's brother and his sister. I was against it b/c it felt weird to me. Godparents who where brother and sister. It felt like incest to me. DH thought I was nuts and I really was. It was a very personal hang up. ha!
For DS#1 we had BIL (DH's brother) and his cousin. For DS#2 we are have SIL (DH's sister) and her husband.

Re: How did you chose godparents?
You pick two people who you want to be important in the baby's life and who you feel will do a good job of it.
IMO they don't need to be a couple at all!
My older sister and my husband's brother are the godparents for my daughter. We each chose a sibling from each side of our family.
FOr baby #2 both godparents will be from my side of the family since DH only had one sibling.
We are asking my younger sister and my BIL...who believe it or not is my older sister's husband. Sounds a little odd...we are not chosing my brother...but BIL is an important part of our family and is always there to help everyone out and I want someone like that ot be involved in my child's life.

It's a common misconception - DH thought this was the case when we were choosing as well - and his godparents weren't even married to each other.
The only reason why I knew is that my mom told me who my guardians would be in case something happened to her and my father - and it wasn't either of my godparents.
