How are you dealing with FB?
I feel like we are even more split as a nation now post election. I am finding myself getting angry and upset at people I know and like. I have unfollowed some people but dont want to unfollow everyone that has a different opinion. Its just all having a negative affect on me this week and I am trying to figure out ways to stay on FB and only focus on the positive. Is it really easy to ignore the posts and comments you dont agree with? Do you just go ahead and unfollow a lot of people?
I was OFF FB for 5 years after i was separated and divorced and just went back on a year ago. There are a lot of groups i am in and great ways to stay connected for interests, hobbies, kids, community etc.
How is everyone else dealing with this? I cant be the only one. Please share your solutions!

How are you dealing with FB?
I haven't unfollowed anyone, I just don't take it personally. I don't click on the links people post. I just keep scrolling. You're not going to change anyone's opinion by getting into a debate on fb. It's just not worth my time or energy to get involved in political talk.

I've only unfollowed one person. But she used the elections as a s excuse to let her true colors show. It's not someone I see anymore anyway. Otherwise I roll my eyes a lot and keep scrolling.

See i USED to be like this. I KNOW people have different opinions and respect that. I never got into politics.
Lately though its getting my emotions and the best of me. I am feeling a lot more passionate about the issues.

I think Facebook had a social obligation and failed. The amount of fake news that circulated was disgusting. I haven't unfriended but I see less of some people.

Re: How are you dealing with FB?
i' very selective on FB to begin with, so it's easy for me to unfollow people I don't want to see often. I hide a lot of particular posts just based on the title or source. This way when I go back on later, i don't see those posts. I've also started checking my FB a lot less in the past two weeks. I only check maybe once a day if that much. It's helped deal with the anger and disappointment.

I've unfollowed and defriended. It's much better for me. I mean before FB, I didn't have daily contact with these people, why bother now?

Re: How are you dealing with FB?
I am proud that my FB feed is diverse with opposing viewpoints.
I think a major reason Trump won, was because left-leaning people were so insulated with their friends that they didn't see the opposing viewpoints in their newsfeed (or in their daily conversations with people). This lead to the "how did this happen?!?' moment.
So I guess I'm 'dealing' with FB the same as I always have... I appreciate the opposing viewpoints, I don't unfollow people (I think that's akin to putting your head in the sand, personally), and I don't take everything personally.
(For the record, I didn't vote for either candidate)

Re: How are you dealing with FB?
I have always been open to different viewpoints and friendly debates with friends and family. Always.
That said, I deleted every single person I know of who supported Trump. Close friends. Family. Occasional acquaintances. I don't care.
Seems harsh?
Yeah, well so is knowing that people you break bread with voted for someone who supports a president that calls for your husband to be on a registry because of his religion.
For months, I tried to get people to understand the severity of this "registry" and how it made us feel. I don't need people in my life who support Trump.
THAT was my bottom line.

I unfollowed a few people. I don't defriend. I certainly would never defriend friends or family based on who they voted for!!! We are all allowed to have different opinions and that is why we have elections. That is just insane! We all have our reasons for voting the way we did...me, I know nothing on the "social" issues will change....we have NEVER, EVER as a people lost a right that we won, it's not about to change now. The only people I unfollowed are people who post 30 times a day and spewing hate, using curse words, making death threats, etc...oh and those people were Hillary supporters. I just don't need to see all that on my feed. I'm there for the puppies and babies and keeping up with family in different parts of the country.

Exactly this, I just scroll by the BS.
The one time I HAD to say something was when a friend posted "if a hot guy walked up to a girl & said let me grab your pu*sy, she'd be flattered"....oh helllllll no. Otherwise I just scroll by her mostly ridiculous & racist posts lol.

How are you dealing with FB?
I just keeps scrolling usually. Sometimes if I'm close to the person and it's 100% inaccurate info, I have to say something. A family member posted a map of where Hillary/Trump won the popular vote. It was blatantly wrong. I had to comment because I know Hillary won my county and many surrounding counties, but they were unaccounted for on the map posted.

I haven't unfollowed or defriended but I do think a lot less of several people. I have a very hard time respecting Trump supporters and I am one of the least politically involved people around.

This. At first a lot of posts bothered me but I have come to realize that there is a lot of immaturity on both sides and it's just easier to bypass all the bs.

Re: How are you dealing with FB?
I unfollowed the diehard posters for either side. I don't go on Facebook to be bombarded with "who I should vote for and why" opinion posts.
And because of that, my FB remained cute kids pics, pets and recipes. FB is an escape when I need it.
I, however, was unfriended by 2 people. Good riddens.

How are you dealing with FB?
i unfollowed people who continuously shared everything under the sun, multiple times a day. and i did unfollow/unfriend other people based on their views because they were directly opposed to what i believe and how i live my life. for the most point they weren't people i keep in contact in real life so it wasn't a big deal.

I truly wish it were true that we have never lost a right that we won.
Unfortunately there are numerous "small" ways to enact state level legislation that will chip away at civil rights. Abortion has plenty of examples. There are numerous states with laws on the books that affect doctors, clinics, etc. that end up having the same practical effect as if Roe was overturned.
Check out this recent Texas case
Fortunately the above case went in women's favor this past June but with a Trump Supreme Court future cases might not go that way.
It's unfortunate that you are seeing hate on your FB feed from Clinton supporters. Frankly, I have gotten plenty from Trump supporters, so I suppose it comes from both sides.

Re: How are you dealing with FB?
I don't unfollow based on a difference of opinion. I unfollow based on how that opinion is expressed- but I find it's all very consistent with how these people are in general. The election is just another topic to be rude/overbearing/judgmental about and that I just have no tolerance for. In general, fb friends capable of the type of rude political posts I don't appreciate were weeded out long before the election.

I have blocked one person who I don't want to unfriend but he was consistently antagonizing me and posting blatant lies. I'll unblock soon enough. I have not unfriended anyone but have been unfriended by several and probably unfollowed by more but I really couldn't care less. Bye felicias!

Re: How are you dealing with FB?
Im ignoring the politics, however, today ALONE, I had 3 people post OVERTLY racist things, who had never before. I unfriended them. This President Elect is clearly legitimizing closet racists and making them think it is OK to post these things. One was a close family friend, the other two, just people from HS who I wouldnt otherwise talk to if not for FB. I have no room in my life for people like that. See ya and thanks for opening my eyes to the kind of person you really are.
One person actually posted that instead of calling white people racists, that black people should be thanking white people from freeing them from slavery.
You CANNOT deny that this is legitimizing closet racists into thinking their way is now acceptable.
This country is going to go to shit over the next 4 years. You cannot deny that hate and racism, etc is heightened, that people are now coming out of the woodworks.
You cannot deny that the PE instead of speaking out about it, is denying its happening, is accusing it all on media spin and instead is worrying about shit like Hamilton and SNL.
That man is a PIG and he is going to take this country back 60 years. I have NO PROBLEM cutting people out of my life anymore over it. NOT A SINGLE QUALM.
