how accurate?

is the EPT Certainty test? Can you get a false positive if you test before you really miss a period? I heard it says on the box that the chances of getting a positive before a missed period are lower. What about false positives though? Friend thought she was late, but really her avg cycle is about 31 days and and she thought her AF was due today, but it's actually the 29th according to mymonthlycycles.com, she got a BFP though but is afraid to get hopes up if it's a false positive. I didn't use this test with DD so I wanted to find out what other's thought. Would love to put her mind at ease. TIA.

Re: how accurate?

Its very rare to get a false positive. The pregnancy tests pick up HCG, the pregnancy hormone. Your body only creates that hormone when you're actually pregnant.

The only thing that could cause what LOOKS like a positive test result, would be an evaporation line on a test (on the line tests). Have her take a digital test instead -- if that comes up positive, she's definately pregnant.

ETA: Many at home tests can give you accurate positive results up to 5 days before your missed period. I got a BFP 3 days before my missed period.
