Housing hunting vent...
I just have to get this out. Tonight went to see a house for the second time with my dad (he's my round 2 guy- after DH likes it, I take dad to take a look at everything- electric, plumbing, heat, etc- to see what he thinks). Anyway- tonight take him- he gives the green light- float an offer to the sellers- and then my DH changes his mind about the house b/c the potential neighbors across the street don't keep their house nice enough and "what will people think of us when they drive up to our house and see what the house across the street looks like" i was like we don't have a huge budget- there isn't an unlimited supply of houses in our price range- and he's being SO PICKY!
Not to mention- three times a week I drive from our current apartment near Giant Stadium to my mothers house in AMITYVILLE at 6am so I can work with my dad 3 days a week and make some money.. I just need to know there is an end in sight here so I don't go crazy!

Re: Housing hunting vent...
time for you & your DH to make a list of must haves & things you are not willing to compromise on.....everyone no matter what their budget has to accept something that's not "perfect". Good luck, I hope you find a house you both love soon!!!

hang it there.....it isn't easy looking for a house. DH & I did the same thing at times, but you finally find the one that is just right for you.

Re: Housing hunting vent...
we had this happen. If I liked it, DH didn't.
We eventually found the right house.
How about finding out what the deal is with the other house? Maybe it's a rental and the landlord is not there? Ask around.

Where are you looking?
Lindenhurst and West Babylon mostly- we've seen about 25 houses so far. Because we live in NJ- we set up whole days where all we do is go from house to house. So far we made an offer on one- they countered, and we decided we didn't like it enough to pay more. Yesterday's house, DH didn't really love the location and wasn't willing to go any higher in price.
We are seeing a lot of houses that have 2 bedrooms up and 2 bedrooms down- which I don't like. DH works out of the house, so he needs a home office which I prefer to put in a basement. On top of it all, DH is completely TERRIBLE and fixing things- so everything has to be in OK condition- the kitchen, though, can be a mess b/c my dad does custom kitchens (owns his own factory/showroom- which is where i've been working for the past month).

Maybe you can just tell the agent that you are looking with that you don't like the 2/2 bedrooms and not waste time looking at something you don't like! Good luck!

Re: Housing hunting vent...
Yeah, I think you both have to sit down and make a list of what your must have things are--for your DH it sounds like it is a nice neighborhood. There were some things we didn't agree on 100%--I could live without a garage, but DH really wanted one. I really wanted 2 full bathrooms, he was okay with 1.5, but we agreed to certain things in the end.
For what it's worth, I think he may be right--a dumpy house could get annoying over time and you can't do anything about that. But I don't know what the house looked like.
