DH and I bought our co-op prior to getting married. We were going to try to sell it and get a house before the baby came, but it became too much to take on at once. Our co-op is 2 bedroom, so there is room enough to have the baby. We'll probably try to sell it and move into a house next year.
We thought about waiting until we had the house before TTC, but we decided that we wanted to have more than one child, with time in between each one and since we were not getting any younger, there was no point in waiting...

Technically, no since we still don't really own our home outright (we're waiting to go to contract and waiting...).
We did start TTC long before we bought our house. We figured our co-op would be okay in the beginning, but we would want something larger eventually.

Everyone is different.
For us we wanted to own something prior to TTCing. We couldn't afford a house in Westchester (where we live) so we bought a 2BR co-op. We moved in last June and started TTCing in Sept.

We wanted to have the house first. We spent 2 years decorating and doing minor rennovations and rebuilding the savings account and then felt we were ready to start a family.
This was our personal preferance. Owning a house should not feel like a requirment. Do what you are comfortable with.

We wanted to be in a house before TTC. We wanted to make sure we would be able to make the monthly payments before we added in the costs of a baby. Everyone is different though.

You can be financially sound without a house. I think especially for the NYC area a lot of folks don't have houses. It's a nice thing to have but not a prerequisite by any means. To me having savings and a stable relationship are the most important items.

We bought a house before we were married but If we didnt I still would have wanted a baby now. If you want a baby, have one...do what will make you happy!
