Hot water in shower not so hot?
***? I have noticed that in the last few places I have lived, including when I was growing up, that the shower hot water never gets super hot. Do I want a 3rd degree burn? No, but I want the option to have it kind of scorching.
In hotels, it always seems to have super hot water, so why can't I have that?
Is this something I can fix?
Does anyone else have the same issue or has noticed the same issue?
Maybe I am just nuts?

Have you checked the temperature gauge on your boiler or hot water heater?

Yep. When we moved into our new home after we got married, I was like why is the water not as hot as my parents house? The old owners had the gauge on the hot water heater to the lowest setting. We moved it up and now it's perfect.

It's the temp gauge on the boiler/hot water heater. It's typically set to a hot (but not super hot) temp, so that you don't spend a lot of money keeping the tank heated. I have ours set so that if there is no cold water mixed in, it's a very nice temp. Definitely not "scalding", though. (Plus, we have DC, so I set it so that it's impossible for them to get scalded)
You could also look into an on-demand heater just for the shower. It will boost the water temp just for that one fixture to whatever you want, without having to heat the entire tank.

You can turn up the water heat - just be careful not to turn it on too hot if you have kids so they don't get burned if they turn on the hot water by accident.
We had to do this b.c our hot water was pretty warm but not hot so you almost had to have the cold off to get a hot shower. We just turned the temperature up (there should be a dial on your hot water heater) and it has been fine since.

Ours was at the highest and it still wasn't hot enough.
If you have oil heat you may need to have the heating coil shaken (don't know what the technical term is), rust and stuff builds up on it and it needs to be cleaned to run more efficiently. This worked great for my parents.
We also ended up installing a hot water tank. It turns out the water pressure in our house is so good that the water passes through the oil burner too fast to get as hot as we would like it. The tank fixed this problem.
