Homeowners claim
Can I put a claim in for this?
Part of my fence blew down. Other parts blew down before and we "fixed" it but of course it wasn't done right. We are getting the whole thing fixed again.
My front stoop is now a serious hazard due to snow and ice..a big piece cracked this am and I'm afraid someone will get hurt.
Think I can file a claim?

Re: Homeowners claim
I'd say your best bet is to contact your insurance agent asap. Whether or not you're covered depends on what's in your homeowner's policy. If you haven't already, take pictures of the damage.
Not sure about the damage to the stoop from ice.

Re: Homeowners claim
That sound like 2 separate claims and I would find out how many claims you file in a year. I know some will drop you if you have 2 in one year.
I would first get an estimate to fix each item and see how much it would be. It if less than what your deductible is then you have your answer.

Re: Homeowners claim
found out the stoop wouldn't be covered. Rats. The fence is another story but they would only pay to get the one part of the fence fixed which came down. The other parts of the fence that came down in prior storms we already fixed so I doubt they would replace the whole thing which is what we are doing since the newer parts weren't done right.
So I think I'm stuck.

Re: Homeowners claim
It's doubtful, but they may cover the parts that went down and are already fix. It would depend on how long after the incident they allow you to file a claim. Some policies have time limits. The difficulty will be if you don't have enough proof that the fence was damaged by weather and also since it's fixed, a claims agent can't review the damage. But it can't hurt to ask your agent.
