Unless I have specifically in that person's kitchen and know how clean they are BOOM... into the garbage it goes.

I do feel horrible throwing things out but I get so skeeved out.

A couple of students gave me homemade cookies/candy today which made me think of this!

Sure, if I knew the person well enough - I don't really need to know what their kitchen looks like, but if it wasn't like a random stranger, sure (if I like it!).

I'm with you. Really depends on the kids, but some are really gross in school, couldn't imagine their home.

Re: Homemade edible gifts: Do you eat them?

From family and friends, yes. Really those are the only people who would give me food!

I give a lot of homemade goodies for holidays and such, luckily my family and friends know that I take great pride in my baked goods and that even if there are dishes in the sink, my kitchen is still clean, lol!

NEVER from my students. Chat Icon Even if they say their parents made it. You just never know - sometimes parents are worse than the kids Chat Icon

From co-workers - yes, I'll eat it. Chat Icon

It depends on who it's from. If it's from you, let's just say, BOOM. Into la poubelle it goes...

Seriously though, it depends on who it's from. Chat Icon Anthony would totally be with you on this! He eats NOTHING made from anyone other than his or my family. FOOD SNOBS!!! hehehehe I don't discriminate as often. Chat Icon

Now I'm craving cookies that my friend Robin made me at work... I think now is a great time to have a few... xoxo

Re: Homemade edible gifts: Do you eat them?

I always eat things made by other people. Sometimes the idea crosses my mind that they might not be super clean, etc.. but it's usually a passing thought - very few things come between me and my holiday sweets!Chat Icon

Re: Homemade edible gifts: Do you eat them?

The edible gifts we get are from close family & friends, so we do eat them all. If it was from a stranger, I don't think I would eat it though.

Re: Homemade edible gifts: Do you eat them?

wow, i never even considered not eating a homemade gift! (i am not a teacher though Chat Icon)

if someone from work brings something in, we all devour it.

but i can totally see how if a client brought something in, it would go right in the trash Chat Icon but they would never bring anything in to us, so we never have to worry Chat Icon

If the item is baked/boiled on the stove then the temperature alone would kill any bacteria/germs/ugly little critters one would not want to ingest. Of course, God knows what happens to them on the way from the oven to your desk.

Good point.

Me-it depends on how hungry I am.

Also-I am the reverse of most. Unless I know your kitchen is a mess or you sneezed all over them, I'll generally try your baked goods.

Right after you posted this my SIL walked in with some homemade cookies that a patient gave him at the Chiropracter's office! I looked at him and chuckled....We didn't eat any yet.

If I know who it is from.

A lot of people bring stuff in and put it in our kitchen at the office, if I don't know where it is from, I don't eat it.

Re: Homemade edible gifts: Do you eat them?

Only if it's a family member or close friend...I get skeeved by some people here at work who bake.
And I'm usually not like that- I eat at restaurants and God knows what goes on in the kitchen- but if I don't see it, I don't think about it.
Problem is when I know the person- and know they are skeevy- that is when I can't do it.
