Home Owners Ins Claim
Anyone ever make one? We had water damage in kitchen to the cabinetry and the wood floor that is shared with the dining room. To repair means replacing the floor AND sub-floor for both rooms as well as the island cabinet.
Is it worth going through Nationwide or will my rates go up?

Re: Home Owners Ins Claim
I'm in the process of dealing with Nationwide due to my a portion of my driveway caving in. Normally driveways aren't covered (I guess) but ours cracked after getting an oil delivery in March. So basically Nationwide will be going after the oil company after the pay our claim.
My case has been so frustrating since it is a unique situation. My agent had no idea if we could even get it covered. He told me no. When I asked specifically where in the policy it stated that driveways would not be covered, he told me to put in the claim but the examiner could reject it. They told us to get estimates which we are in the process of doing. Some days I wish we just paid out of pocket. We can still drop the claim but I don't think we will since the damage appears more extensive than previous thought.
I'm nervous about getting dropped since we don't have auto with Nationwide. I've been there with Allstate. We shall see.

Where did the water come from that caused the damage? A leaking pipe? rain? etc... that is going to determine what is covered and what is not.
Is it worth putting a claim in? 100% and let an adjuster come out there and check the damage, that is what you have Insurance for.

Re: Home Owners Ins Claim
i was forced to file a claim with my home owner insurance recently. long story but the claim was the result of the another insurance company lowbailling the needed repairs caused by one of their policy holders. the process was quite long and lots of paperwork was required by i did receive the full 27k requested claim. my company is now in the process of subrogating with the other insurance company.
i thought for sure that my rates would increase or even worse, that i would be dropped but i received a bill recently and thankfully neither occurred.

It was a leaky pipe under the cabinet. The floor is uneven (house is 75 years old) so the water puddled, destroying anything it touched.
