Home extension?
Ok so we are starting the beginning stages of researching a home extension/renovation. We want to add a 2 story extension. We hope to do most of the work ourselves (we have many connections in this field; heating/ac, ventilation, electric, etc) so we would need to add only a frame or the shell of the house. We can do the walls, floors and everything else ourselves. Has anyone ever just added a shell? how much does this usually go for? and if anyone has any tips or advice it would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: Home extension?
You should look into Shells only. Thats what they do....
I couldnt tell you how much just the shell cost on our home since we got a complete price to do the whole job, but im assuming that it must be around $75 to 80k

Re: Home extension?
Shells Only added on an upstairs on a house down the street from me and it is fabulous, I swear they did it in 3 weeks. Everytime I drive by I sooo wanna ring the door bell and ask if they were pleased etc..
Im curious to know. If a Shells Only type extension is done, the only thing left to do is sheetrock and electrical right? If that is the case - Is the sheetrock something that is DYI-ish?
I know the painting and spackling is.
eta: correct a sentence and just read the OP post carefully

Re: Home extension?
They only do the shell - so you need to hire subs for everything else - Heating, Electric, Plumbing, Insulation, Sheet rock, flooring etc. Also you need to have everything inspected because you will have a permit on the house, so everything needs to be legal. Booking an appointment with an inspector can take a while. We are having the framing inspector come in this week to check the house out, and then insulation goes in and the insulation gets to be inspected before they sheetrock.
