Holy crap!
at 5:00am this morning we were awoken by this screeching sound. I ran and out on the light to find my cat Max playing with something. I thought it was a mouse or something which would have been horrific enough.
But no...not a mouse, not a rat, not a roach or a ciccada bug (sp)..
A BAT!
A freakin bat!
How did a bat get into my house, I will never know.
He was maimed from Max playing with him so he couldn't really fly anymore but this thing was huge with it's wingspan.
I screamed and DH got up put shoes and his robe on a scoped him out and killed it.
I can't tell you how we shivered about this.
We have to figure out if there was a window open or something...
Still shuddering thinking about it.
DH is my hero! He saved the day!

They can come in through the chimney too, so you have on that's not capped?? Either that or they got in through the eaves of the house.

I was amazed that I was able to fall asleep again.
It was terrifying.

Bats can squish through tiny holes.
My frends left a window open & didn't know there was a hole in the screen & one got in.
Don't be embarassed about screaming, my friend & is wife pulled the comfortor over themselves & ran out of the apt to stay with his parents.

Make sure to take your cat into your vet ASAP! Bats carry rabies and it's best to be safe then sorry when it comes to your beloved pet!!!!

Have the bat tested for rabies. Bat bites can be hard to detect so you could have been bitten and not known it. Its very important to have it tested. I assume your cat has a rabies shot.

I kind of find them cute now. My class studies them every year and I think they are amazing. And thank your husband for doing what he did. Poor thing might have suffered a lot had he not done that.

We had a bat in our house once. My sister spotted in when coming home late one night! It went after my dad, so he swung at with a towel - it got knocked out and fell down the stairs. Then My dad killed it and tossed it outside!
Glad you guys are ok, I know how scary and freaky that is!

My BIL's GF had a similar story...
A bat got into her house and woke her up b/c it was flying in her FACE!!!!
True story.
It's actually very funny to see her re-tell the story, she's very animated, not to mention it involved some poor exchange student who didn't speak a word of English!!! They were short-term roommates!
