Re: Holiday Shopping & Spending (Poll)

She's only 6 months, so I'm not spending much this year. I bought her a few little toys to open, but she doesn't need much. Plus, family is buying her SO much! So I'd say we've spent maaaaaaybe $75?

Re: Holiday Shopping & Spending (Poll)

I spent way more than I wanted to because I had to pay for rush shipping!

Prob about $150 for my DD. $65 of that is probably shipping. Chat Icon

Holiday Shopping & Spending (Poll)

DD is 5. I spent about $150ish give or take on her and honestly I felt that was more than enough.

I spent $100 on my nephew.

The rest of the kids I spend between $20-30...a little more on my BFFs kids.

We spent less than $50 for each kid. Had to give them something from Santa. They get so many things from other people that we don't really feel the need to buy them much more.

I couldn't even tell you, I just buy things as I go and don't really add them up. It's not an obscene amount, and no individual item was more than like $60.

for those who spend hundreds --- where do you put everything? Do you go through and donate toys every year?

I just cannot even think about all the room $500 worth of toys take up, year after year and then add bdays?

we prob spent about 100 each.
They are only 2 and they don't understand yet so I let the grandparents and family buy the "cool" stuff.
I know how excited they are to give it to them.

Putting some money in their savings and taking them for swimming lessons instead!

Re: Holiday Shopping & Spending (Poll)

I didn't keep track, I got them some things they asked for and some I knew they would like, it's somewhere between $100 and $200, but I also used rewards to lower the original amount.

Not that I spend even close to this amount, but I go through their toys every year to donate and put in storage no matter how many gifts they are getting or have gotten.

My mom saved a lot of toys from when my sister and I were kids and my kids play with them now, I think that is awesome! I hope to do the same.

I rotate toys allot, sometimes too often according to my DH - lol. I donate toys, hand them down to friends and save some smaller ones as well. I HATE clutter more then anything, so if DS does not play with something or grows out of it, I get rid of it and make room for the new stuff.

The Holidays is when he gets the bulk of his toys, for B-Days most of my friends and family get him clothes or gift cards and we use them towards things he needs.

$500 worth of toys can be like 4 things or 50 things. It just depends on what you are buying.

I donate a lot of stuff, and my kids really only receive new toys, etc. at Christmas time, or on bdays.

Re: Holiday Shopping & Spending (Poll)

Totally guessing, maybe $300-$400. It could be less. I really don't know.

My DH started shopping for Christmas gifts back in July at the Target clearance sale, so it's really hard to estimate.

We've scaled back on what we are spending on our nieces and nephews significantly.

For my 2 nieces on DH's side, $35 per kid.
My the 7 children on my side, approx $30 per kid.

This is the first year we are getting rid of some toys. My youngest is 2.5 and we got rid of a contractor bag full of baby toys, stuff they don't play with, etc.

We really do spend a lot, and then some our family goes so overboard. Most of our family gives $$$. we save all the $ for them, but we buy most of the toys.

Stuff like a Wii
Telescope
Karaoke
Fish tank/aquarium

So not really many toys.

We spent about $400.00 on DS who is 3. We dont usually spend that much, but that included a power wheels.

As for the room for toys, we go through his toys often, anything thats broken gets tossed, or anything that he doesnt play with or has out grown either gets donated or tossed.

I always clean out DDs closets and toy room prior to Xmas to make room for the new gifts at Xmas. I generally box up anything she doesn't play with anymore and store it in the garage and other things I rotate throughout the year.

Money wise it sounds like a lot but it doesn't really equate to 40,000 new toys, if that makes sense. For example, this year her big gift was the Calico Corners Townhome with accessories..........that was about $200 and that's just one gift. Then we got her new princess bedding for her new big girl bed, that was probably another $100. So there's $300 and really not a lot of stuff.

The rest of the money was spent on other toys she's been asking for but in terms of actual new toys, it's not much stuff as you would think given the amount of money spent. KWIM? Chat Icon

Re: Holiday Shopping & Spending (Poll)

Never more than $100 if I can manage it.

I once spent $125 on her Thomas the Train ride-on but I regret it.

Spent $200 (tho none of it mine) on her leappad last year. She still uses it but it still kinda makes me sick. I put my foot down. No way, no more.

This year is less than $100 and that includes the Doc McStuffins bag which was the most expensive.

OUr budget for each of the older 2 (ages 6 and 8) was $500 each.

For the 10 month old, we budgeted $200.

I have no idea if we stayed in budget Chat Icon Chat Icon
