Holiday photographers already booked!!!
I thought I was on the ball looking for holiday mini's and there are already photographers booked up!!!!
I think next year I should start looking in July for November

Just go to Target -they do an amazing job. And usually have a Groupon
Or I just take my own. I kind of enjoy it. I get a little creative with props, go find a nice outdoor location in late Oct or early Nov before it gets too cold and just shoot away.
I have fun designing the card, and setting it up.
I get tons of compliments and it costs me nothing.
And trust me, I am NO photographer and I have not one artistic bone in my body.
Yet they come out so cute
Nobody really cares if your pics are professional. They look at it, see how cute your kids are, smile, and put it aside. Then it gets tossed after the holiday.

it really is crazy. photographers really start booking in july for xmas!
I have been just using target and I think this year I might try JCP.
because of this post I just went and booked a few days and times at target and JCP so I can have a "good" time to go for the pictures and target already is becoming booked no time I can go had times I really wanted

I don't use anyone - I use my DSLR.
I went to The Picture People once on a Groupon - pics were horrible.
I went to Target last year, same thing, Groupon - HORRIBLE pictures.
and to be honest, many of the 'photographers' out there now are NOT professional photographers. - They're someone with a good camera and enough time to stage a shoot and use an editing program. - which is all well and good, but don't call yourself a professional photographer.
NOT to take away from those who are true PROFESSIONAL photographers, but I feel like FB has been flooded with Moms with cameras calling themselves photographers.

I just bought a groupon for jc penney with a 20% coupon it came to $16. The worst that can come of it are the pics are horrible and I take a picture myself with my DLSR or a picture with Santa.

I am using the same photographer that I have for both sons newborn and the past 2 years holidays. She emailed me in July! I booked my christmas pics in July lol my dh thought I was crazy

I booked in July but I'm also taking ours the last weekend of September. It's early, but there's a 2 week turn around, then I have to order the cards, then wait for the cards to be delivered then address them and everything. I like to send them out the day after thanksgiving, so taking them early lets me do that without worry.

it annoys me that they do holiday pics in early Oct. When you have an infant or newborn, they will look different/bigger by the actual holidays

I agree! Most photogs I've come across really are not photographers at all and yet people are willing to pay them hundreds... I've learned my lesson.
I have a good camera and a good eye and have taken some "photographer" level shots myself.
The woman who I used for a Christmas mini shoot last year was laughable. Never again.

We've been using the same photographer for the past 4+ years and I always book holiday photos when we do the birthday phones in May/June. It always seems crazy to me but at least then i know i am all set for an appointment time that will work for our family.

Honestly I don't have the time or patience to sit at JCP or Picture people for 100 hours and I don't want to shell out the $$ to pay a "photographer" for Christmas pics that are cute but will be tossed to the side on December 26. I always do our Christmas pics myself and they always come out nice. Save time, sanity and $$.
