Holiday Card Pictures
Just curious...do you have professional pics taken every year for your Holiday card or do you take them yourself/use pictures from the year?

Re: Holiday Card Pictures
From the time DD was born until 2 years ago I took them myself. I would take her to a nice park or someplace with nice scenery and dress her up, bring some props, get creative, do it in a holiday theme.
Starting last year I booked a mini session with a pro and never looked back.
I am no photographer. The difference is night and day

Re: Holiday Card Pictures
I have always done professional pictures for Christmas with my kids. I always am in love with them and in love with my Christmas cards. Totally worth it for me.

Re: Holiday Card Pictures
Holiday cards are to family and friends. They don’t/ shouldn’t really care.
They will get thrown out.
I’ve always done our camera (a DSLR) and pics have come out great.
This year, we had a photographer take pictures of us together as a family when we were on vacation. We will use those because we got them anyway (we will blow them up for a canvas photo). Honestly, our own photos were more “holiday card”.

Professional. I receive a mix of professional and snapshots and actually never thought about it much.

Re: Holiday Card Pictures
I've had professionals photos of my daughter since she's been born (this will be her 4th Christmas). We did the Santa Experience last year which was a nightmare bc my daughter screamed the whole time. I don't know why I even bother because I never LOVE the pro pics. I'll usually get 2 pics that are good but it's not worth it for the price. This year, in addition to the pro pics, I bought a backdrop off of Amazon for 30 bucks, taped it to a wall in my foyer, got some props, and snapped a bunch of pics with my DSLR. I got so many awesome pics. Two of my friends did the same thing but with different backdrops and now we can just swap backdrops next year

Last year I used target but up until then I always took them myself. I liked the target pics a lot but not as much as some of the ones I've done myself. Some years have come out better than others though.

We do professional pics-i did even before my kids were born. And i love hen! Especially the photographer I've been using for the past 3 years (if people couldn't tell lol).
I do one outdoor shoot a year, in late September/early October. I then rotate those into frames in my house, replacing the previous years pictures.
I also don't throw out any photo cards-i have them all saved and clipped together.

Holiday Card Pictures
I used a photog for a couple years, then we switched to my DH taking the pictures at a park with a pretty setting. This year I used a pic from our summer vacation of DD cause it had a beautiful background.

I save all photo cards and keep them in a box. I had professional ones done of my kids and will be continuing to do so. I love black and white canvas prints and I have replaced many frames around my house with nice photos and now have begun to hang black and white prints of my children, both professional and moments I captured at the park etc. we have 2 photos I took of my kids in a swing, it was a day I took them to the park for breakfast and swing time and it’s a day with them I’ll never forget and when I look at the pictures each night before bed (in our room) I think back to that day. Anyways, I do feel a nice family holiday picture don’t professionally works for my family.

Re: Holiday Card Pictures
Professional. Considering how much money I spend on my kids on cr@p that they play with once and never look at again, I’m happy to make this splurge to capture memories of them at specific ages that I will cherish forever. I absolutely adore the photographer I’ve been using the last 3 years - whenever I get my photos back I literally cry beciase she just somehow captures my babies in a way that’s THEM. Worth every penny.
ETA: photos are used on cards but also around house and we give framed photos to close relatives as gifts. Photos are not just for the cards.

Professional. I have used Target/Sears and this year I timed it so that our yearly family pictures could double as holiday pics. I love pictures and will always spend the money to have photos.

I usually am able to get a few really good pics myself.
I don't throw away picture cards. Do people really throw them away after the season? It's basically lthrowing about a pic of someone. If I knew someone that did this I would just send them a regular card, not a picture card.

Re: Holiday Card Pictures
When my DS was a baby, I was able to take out my good camera and get a really great pic of him for the cards. Now he’s 4 and it’s harder for me to get a good pic since I can’t just put him how I want. We did pro pics this year and I love them.

Re: Holiday Card Pictures
Thanks for the responses - I've had professional ones done since my first was born, then last year when my 2nd son as born, I decided to take myself since he was so little - I had put them in pajamas and dressed up the bed with holiday pillows and blankets, came out super cute. This year, we had professional pics taken in May and we did a big reno the past couple months so I didnt feel like it was necessary to spend the money...the baby is 1 so he is ALL OVER THE PLACE. I attempted to take pictures at the park last weekend and it did not go well! lol He just wasnt having it...so i was glad I didnt spend the money on professional pics - who knows if he would have cooperated. I remember with my first, we had pics taken the year he was 1 and i literally got like ONE picture because he also would not cooperate...
Anyway, trying to think of something cute I can do at home...
Not sure if these pics will attach...but i found some cute ones on pinterest of the older sibling trying to put the younger one in a box, the younger one tying up the older one with lights...and Naughty and Nice signs pointing to eachother.. I am going to attempt one this weekend. WISH ME LUCK.

Preofessional. We do Christmas and birthdays. I don’t throw our picture cards. They get out in an album or a box.

Of course they get thrown out!!! WTH are you going to do with thousands of cards over the years? I don't ask anyone to send me a picture of their kids or themselves, you can't possibly think people are keeping them for posterity? LOL Only a few peoples will I keep after the Christmas Season is over.

I throw them out. I keep some close relatives/friends but, that's about it. I just don't have room to store a picture of my husband's college roommates kids that I never met - kwim? I enjoy receiving them and put them on display until February but, after that - I toss them.
And most people I know toss as well. And they still send me photo cards because it's easier than writing them out by hand.
ETA - I usually take my own pics but, a friend took a nice pic this year (and she could be a professional).

I always did professional, but this year decided to just take them myself at a nice park. I love how the pro pics come out, but I just wasn't in the mood for them this year.

Same. I can't possible keep all the photo cards I get. I don't expect anyone to keep ours either. I love getting them- love seeing everyone's kids and watching them grow year to year... and I display them until we take our Xmas decor down mid January- but they have to get tossed. I have no room to store that level of stuff. Over years and years. And let's face it- I am never going to go back and look at them. I don't know anyone who keeps them to be honest

I keep them in my card holder when I store it away. It doesn't take up much extra space at all. I really enjoy going through and looking at all the photos a year later. Then, aside from my nieces, they all get tossed!
