As of today, the housing plan has been removed from the budget by her own party. Since she is focusing a ton of money on building a BIlls stadium - maybe a stronger focus on creating lasting jobs and housing in that area would be beneficial. I did hear, although I have not read, that LI will be getting federal funding for clean water infrastructure.

I haven’t been able to find an article to support this 100%. Just that the pull back is a starting point for negotiation.

I only point this out because I don’t want people to think this is dead in the water if it’s not.

I heard the story on News 12...Link

ETA: The commentary on Buffalo is my own though.

Hochul’s Housing Plan

I read the plan. Honestly I know affordability is an issue but the island is over developed as it is, and to be honest it’s not working. Take a look at what’s happening in Riverhead. They have built a ton of new beautiful apartment complexes but most are low income. The schools are extremely overcrowded and they keep building, these 4 and 5 story hotel type complexes for families. Not to mention the east end is far from needed services for these families that are much more accessible in the denser, further west towns. Many families don’t have transportation and the public transportation in Suffolk is a joke, they can spend their entire day on the bus just for one appointment. Nothing in the plan addressed real problems. This housing plan doesn’t help the middle class or college grads with a reasonable starting salary stay on Long Island here. I don’t know what you need to do for a living to afford a house here. It’s either million dollar homes (or close to it) or section 8 housing, there’s no in between. Gone are the days are buying a house for $300k that is in decent shape in a decent area. Another reason people are leaving…

Thank you for this! I feel like this is one issue that BOTH sides are NOT on board with. She needs to hear from LI'ers why this is NOT the route we want to go.

I have worked in a very suburban part of Queens for almost 20 years. There's a bus stop in front of my school but that's it.
When I first started, this one street I parked on had 15 single family ranches. Parking was great. PLENTY of parking.

Then slowly, the single family ranches were torn down and a 4 family house was built in its space.

Now ALL of the houses are these GIANT 4-6 family houses. Parking is gone.

Traffic getting to the parkway is awful! It takes me 30 minutes (Not exaggerating) to go 4 miles on a Friday.

Affordable housing sounds great in theory. We're so lucky we bought our house when we did (8 years ago). If we were buying a house now, we'd priced out. Our house is worth almost double. But what most LI'ers need is NOT MORE housing. We need lower taxes.
