Hmmm Starbuck's etiquette question...

OK by way of scene setting.... I hop into S'bucks for a coffee today, delighted with myself after hitting a mega sale at Children's Place and getting a few errands done. I sit down, in the awesome comfy armchairs which are usually FUll, baby sleeping, ipod is on, and life is good.
Then... along comes Rude McDude... sits straight across from me, and performs some kind of contortion act to squish his 6'2" frame into said comfy chair with his nasty sneakers squeeeeezed onto the seat of the armchair. He's got his coffee in one hand, cellphone in the other, Oakley shades on the head, JCrew striped scarf jauntily thrown over his navy peacoat, so I'm guessing boy-o didn't *really* grow up in a barn KWIM? I'm all for getting comfortable but seriously, you're going to put your nasty sneaks on the seat after you've just walked all over Steinway Street with its um, interesting detritus, putting it mildly?
The best part is he was the 'daintiest' thing I've seen in quite some time, I'd love to see his face if I came over to his house and did that on his armchair.

Is this rude or have I officially become my mother??? Chat Icon Tell me the truth, I can take it. I think.

It's a little gross, but frankly, I expect public seating to be abused that way....

Re: Hmmm Starbuck's etiquette question...

That's definitely rude... and gross.

You don't put your shoes - especially your dirty shoes - on ANY kind of furniture.

That's the oldest rule in the book!

Re: Hmmm Starbuck's etiquette question...

It's not only rude but completely disgusting to put shoes on furniture/seats especially if not yours and shared by others. At his place/house... I could not care less what he does.

From your description it sounds like his clothes bothered you more than putting his feet on the seat.

But yes, it is rude to do that.

I think what you wear or where you put your feet at your own place is your business .
But putting your feet up on a seat with your shoes on(or off) at a coffee shop or any other public place is very rude.

I agree. If you are at home and you are sitting comfy in a chair is one thing but that def shows rudeness.

I agree. It's gross.. but it's a public chair and I am certain that worse has happened there. I remember my mother wouldn't let me sit on the jumpseat in a taxi because she said people were animals.
