Highlight help
I got my hair highlighted on last Saturday. It looked a little too light in the salon, but the stylist assured me it was because of the lighting. She said that if it is still looking too light by Monday, make an appointment for a toner to darken it a little. Monday came and went and if anything, it looks even lighter than it did on Saturday.
Is the toner something I can buy and do myself? I really don't want to drop another $65+ to correct it.
Or could I use the Aveda conditioners (dark brown) to add a little color back?

Re: Highlight help
I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself. Especially on highlighted/ bleached hair. You have to be very careful.
My highlights usually take a week to tone down -

Re: Highlight help
The toner shouldn't cost you $65. I pay $20 to have a toner put in after my highlights, but I go to an expensive salon and they charge for everything.
My old salon woudn't have even charged me for the toner.
I would at least call and find out, especially since you expressed your concern about the color to the stylst as soon as it was done.

Re: Highlight help
is this a routine highlight job by your usual girl? If so you shouldn't be paying anything, if its what you usually get and its not right she should do it for free since its her mistake.
If not, I would just give it time, my highlights always tone down, it takes me about 2 weeks with washing my hair everyday.

Re: Highlight help
Thanks for the advice everyone, I have an appointment for tomorrow.
ETA: I will definitely have to pay for it. After this is fixed, I'll stay with this girl for haircuts, and go elsewhere for highlights. This isn't the 1st time I'm not thrilled with the color.

Re: Highlight help
When I get my hair done, it is always 3 proccess --- color, highlight, and finally toner and it cost $$ for all three proccesses.
I am surprised she didn't 'tone' it when you had it done - I've met you and with your coloring and dark hair I would think that it's a given that bleach blonde highlights wasn't what you were looking for and that you needed a toner to blend the colors a bit more.
I'm sorry you have to go back and get it fixed, she should have done it right the first time.

i agree, you should not have to pay for it at all...same thing happened to me, except i was pleased with how light it was but the lady said if i wasn't, to come back and she would do the toner for free. It's supposed to be part of the process anyway. And don't do it yourself. it might come out wrong, and you may have to pay $$ all over again to correct it.

Re: Highlight help
If you are not happy with the color you should never have to pay for a toner!! They are supposed to be monitoring the highlight.. if its too light its her fault!!! did you ask for a specific color.. I always say give me carmel highlights so if they go to light its there fault.. I would not pay for the toner!!! Its included in the price!!! If they charge you I would never go back either.
